Looking for success stories/advice

Hello ladies.
I had a preventative cerclage placed at 13wks and started progesterone injections at 16wks. I'm now 19wks, at our appt today with our MFM we found that I had funneling up to the cerclage itself. So essentially, the fetal membranes are resting right on top of the stitch. The Dr. recommended that I "stay off my feet and take it easy" which I'm assuming is something like modified bed rest. DH and I are trying to stay positive but given our history (2 second trimester losses, both at 21wks. First one was due to placental abruption, second was incompetent cervix which led to ptl) we're nervous that something could go terribly wrong before we reach viability... :(
Has anyone had a similar experience? Were you able to make it full term or at least close? And if course if you have any advice, I'm all ears.

  • There alot of women on here that have had cerclage and went very well close or past term, so there is comfort in that its not unheard of. Im at 32 weeks and am staying stable. Things that have been in my plan of care I got taken off work since oct I have a cerclage and pessary in place Procardia for contractions if i had them Progesterone at night. Im not on strict bedrest anymore...but at this point my mfm says as the pregnancy progresses gravity is the biggest enemy. Good luck to you!

  • So far so good for me, too. I'm 31 weeks today. Had my cerclage placed at 13+2. Started (preventative) procardia at 15 weeks. Started p17 shots around 20 weeks (started late due to insurance). I've been working from home since 15 weeks, and basically put myself on modified rest as of cerclage placement. As of a couple weeks ago, my cervix was still measuring 4cm+.

If it helps, my mom was diagnosed with IC (due to DES exposure as a fetus) in 1982, after a 21 week loss. She went on to have 5 successful pregnancies (84, 86, 90, 96, and 98)--I'm her first success. That was before any of the other interventions were common. (P17/procardia)

Our Angel was born sleeping at 20 weeks due to IC.

  • I have a cerclage in but my cervix hasn't shortened yet (doctors weren't positive I had IC, but after losing my daughter they treated me for it in case) but my friend had a lot of shortening and funneling even with the cerclage.  She was on bed rest, and then admitted for HBR I think between 24 and 25 weeks, her water broke around 26 and her baby was born at 27 weeks.  He spent about 2-3 months in the NICU, but is now home and doing well.

Many T&Ps to you that your cervix holds strong well after viability and LO can cook for as long as possible.

  • I had a successful experience with cercalge and 17p. I had cercalge placed 14wks. Cervix started to shorten at 21wks ended up making it to 39.2wks. I never went into labor I asked dr to be induced because I was scared to reach 40wks as I had a late 21wk loss last yr.

Bed rest, cercalge and 17p really saved my little girl. I just had her going on almost 3wks..
  • With my DD, I had painless dilation from cervical incompetence and only went to the doctor when I had some bleeding at 21w (the only indication I had that something was wrong).  At that point, I was dilated 2cm and the membranes were bulging.  I had an emergency cerclage done that day, and was on strict hospital bedrest for 2 weeks until DD arrived at 23w4d.  So, I was extremely advanced when I came in to have the cerclage done, and it still held for 2 full weeks (I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but it got us to viability).  I would definitely do as absolute little as possible.  T&Ps that your cerclage does its job and your LO stays put for a long time!
