Wait a minute... Is this possible??

I just realized something and now I'm confused....
I just got diagnosed with pcos this week due to my sonogram results. I just remembered that I was JUST in for a sonogram less than 2 years ago because my obgyn thought she felt a cyst. Everything from that came back clear!!

Is it possible to have developed something wonky in my ovaries in that short of time that the docs are just now seeing?! Wouldn't they have seen the pcos with that first sonogram? So confused....

Pretty sure it's possible. Don't cysts come and go fairly often for many women?

Perhaps you've experienced some major hormonal changes over the last two years that led to the cysts you're experiencing now. Symptoms can also come and go, so that could explain why you were clear two years ago.

Maybe you could ask your doctor when you go back. I feel like I always come up with SUPER important questions as soon as I leave the office. Good luck.

Maybe it's just me, but 2 years doesn't seem like "that short of time" to me.

Yes, cysts can develop over a 2 year period. Hell, I didn't have cysts before I came off of BC in April and had 4 by June.

You don't have to have cysts to have PCOS. I was diagnosed with PCOS but at my last ultrasound, about 3 weeks ago, no cysts. It also has to do with hormonal imbalances and insulin levels that inferfere with ovulation.

You ladies make some good points... I guess a lot can happen in 2 years. I'm going in to discuss options with my obgyn on Friday, so hopefully I can remember all my questions then!

We were taught in school that PCOS should really be diagnosed through bloodwork. It can be seen on ultrasound but not always. But like others said, a lot changes as far as woman parts go in a short time!

Not all women with PCOS have polycystic ovaries (PCO), nor do all women with ovarian cysts have PCOS; although a pelvic ultrasound is a major diagnostic tool, it is not the only one.[18] The diagnosis is straightforward using the Rotterdam criteria, even when the syndrome is associated with a wide range of symptoms.

This. I find it strange that you got a diagnosis based only on an ultrasound result.

Not being rude just curious.... What field of study are you in that you are learning about PCOS and then refer to ovaries as "woman parts"?

@ceridwen21..I know, I thought it was strange, too. All of my bloodwork came back "perfect", and I don't have any of the other common symptoms of pcos. She didn't exactly say over the phone what she saw on the u/s that made her think it was pcos. I will definitely be asking some questions at my appt tomorrow, though!

Sonography. Sorry I wasn't trying to make it sound dumb, I just didn't feel like writing it all proper

Didn't have time to write this yesterday, but I was told I had polycystic ovaries, but not pcos. Just because the u/s shows lots of follicles doesn't mean you have pcos. Your blood work results have to show it to. I would get a second opinion.

Ok, so I went to speak with my obgyn today. She said all bloodwork/levels are perfect, but that I have the pcos signature "strand of pearls" on both ovaries. She did a wonderful job explaining anything.

I love this woman because she WON'T put me on clomid. They don't offer the kind of monitoring needed for clomid, so if it gets to that point, she will refer me to an RE.

Sooo...now, we're trying something new. She put me on the generic for prometrium. Hopefully this will get my body back on a natural cycle. I will be taking it on CD 16 each cycle for about 4 months.

Also, she suggested Pregnitude. Anyone taken this? It's an over-the-counter supplement that is supposed to work wonders for your reproductive system. We'll see....
