Trying to Get Pregnant

Can I get your opinion on my opk quick?

Would you consider either of these a positive opk?  I used to get darker readings but I honestly can only hold it for so long during the day (tiny bladder syndrome), so my only semi concentrated urine is FMU.  Today, I drank a lot less water and the bottom is from within the last 20 minutes.  I'm not sure if this is a positive or if I should wait to mark it as a + in FF.

BTW, the reason I am uncertain is that I checked examples posted on FF and saw one with a test line lighter than these that was counted by that individual as positive.  They could have been wrong, but I don't want to discount one that could be considered positive because it wasn't 'dark enough'.

  • My OPK's have looked like yours since around CD 15 for me and I figured I would just keep marking them - since none of my temps were showing a clear O day. I'm on CD 21 now, still not getting a rock solid +. I would mark it as negative for now.

  • Those are negative to me. At least, they would be stark negatives compared to what my positives look like (two solid dark red lines).
  • @hisgirlfriday929 I might have to go buy one tonight.  My next concentrated urine chance won't be until smu tomorrow.

Okay, thanks everyone!  You confirmed what I thought too.  I was about to mark it as - in FF but then I thought I might want to get a second opinion first.  I'm just frustrated because my temp dipped this morning, so I was hoping that I had 'O'ed since all signs pointed to it (CM, cervix, temp drop) except the opks.  This happened last month too and since I wasn't temping, I still have no idea what happened.  Hopefully I'll get it soon!

  • @Travelingcouple  They would be negatives compared to what I got with the wondfos 4 years ago, but I have yet to see a true positive with these newer tests.  I wasn't sure if it's because I'm missing the surge, testing with too diluted urine since I have a weaker bladder now or if it's because I stopped testing too early last month (gave up around CD 20 when I thought I'd missed my surge.)  I'm going to follow HisgirlFriday's suggestion and get digitals tonight to make sure.

    Thanks!

  • Negative. I do OPKs twice a day. Not sure if you are. Mine will look like that in the morning and late evening it will be positive.

Yes!  I was going to add that you don't need FMU w/OPKs.  It's more important to have FMU w/HPTs.
No, I know I don't need FMU with OPKs.  I use SMU because that's usually shortly after I wake up and before I start drinking my water for the day.  My FMU is usually around 4am when I temp.  My bladder is tiny, so by drinking my normal water intake, my urine is diluted enough that I tend to not get good later in the day reads on OPKs.  I simply can't hold it for more than 1.5-2 hours during the day.

I've been laying off the water today specifically to try to get a better reading.  I might try a digital tonight since I've been holding off on drinking much today.  I obviously don't want to dehydrate myself daily for this, but maybe this is what I need to do around O time to get a true OPK reading.

UGH, this is why HPT testing is easier for me.  If I don't get woken up at night, I don't wake to pee and I have a decent concentration.  OPKs are a challenge to get that.

  • Both negative. I think it's recommended to use an OPK in the afternoon with not super concentrated urine.

  • @LaDyBostonRN My cycles have been irregular since I started charting with FF, so they did project my O this week (yesterday, today, tomorrow) is green on the chart, it's been dark green days since last Friday on the calendar and I have at least 10 possible O days on the calendar.  My FF prediction is a mess and not reliable at this point.  Maybe after a few more months of temping it'll make sense.  Thanks though!  That is a good suggestion usually! :)

I started thinking back to 4 years ago when we first started TTC (leading to DS) and I did find that my O day was later than expected.  I did one month based off of a calendar with no real data from me (like a newbie) and the next month I did OPKs and found out I O'd almost a week later than the average generic calendar predicted.  I had forgotten that.  My cycles were also 31/32 days at that point, so that would make since with a typical post O phase that my O date would be around day 18-19.  Last cycle was 35 days, so I definitely O'ed later than I thought.

I got an open circle today so still not high fertility yet.  I'll keep testing daily but I did jump the gun in hoping these were positive.  Thanks for the opinion and the advice ladies!! :)

  • I think they are negative. However, this is what mine look like right before they turn positive. You might want to test more often for the next couple of days.

The open circle has nothing to do with your fertility. It is open or closed based on the time you enter your temp every day. If it is open it just means that you entered your time outside the 30 minute window based on the other temps.

  • Okay, so you ladies were right!

I went from an open circle this morning with the digital OPK to a positive wondfo this afternoon.   I then tested a digital in the same cup and got a full smiley face with no flashing.  So, I jumped from not to definitely ovulating. All the difference that waiting throughout the day makes.

Now I'll just be watching temps to see if I actually did ovulate.  Thanks everyone!
