Drinking alcohol before implantation...

The first day of my last period was October 24th. That puts my ovulation at the 7th...my husband wasn't around until the 8th,9th,10th so I know I conceived around then. That puts my implantation at like the 20th, right?
I'm worried because we went out drinking on the 16th (haven't drank since then). But if the fertilized egg hadn't implanted yet, it wouldn't affect it, right?

I just got my welcome packet from my obgyn and they were kind enough to include a brochure telling me how alcohol can hurt a baby at anytime during pregnancy. "It can cause problems in early weeks, even before you may know you are pregnant" ...thanks a lot for giving me ANOTHER thing to freak out about!!

Re: Drinking alcohol before implantation...

  • Oh yeah, with DS and this one.  Many people go by "drink til it's pink!".  I would not worry about it at all.

  • I'm on the same track as you, my last period was Oct. 25th, and I definitely drank several times  before I knew I was pregnant. Everything I've read so far says it's not that big of a deal but I'm going to ask my OB at my first appointment!
  • Don't freak out! You don't yet share a blood supply with the baby so everything should be fine. I drank a large glass of wine on Thanksgiving and got my BFP 2 days later. In Europe, they drink in moderation throughout pregnancy :). Not saying you should keep going out every weekend, but that there's no need to stress now!
  • I do not think you have too much to worry about just stop drinking. I mean I feel your worry. We have been trying for a while now and last month I was so depressed we didnt get a baby that I said foregt it. I was drinking(not a bunch just casually and wine) and I even smoked a few times. I know totally nasty rebel move. As soon as I found my period was late I ditched it all. Luckily I am not a smoker or a big drinker I mainly bummed them off the hubby when I had a long day at work or something. I felt really bad about it. I told the doctors and nurses and they manily said just to stop it all and since I am not a "smoker" she didnt need to slowly get me off the nicotine. So I worry too but like DH says... imagine how many crazy moms there are out there who deliver perfectly healthy babies(who knows how) but are addicted to drugs alcohol and what not. Just make those changes now and you should be fine. Your not alone. We all drank before we were preggers Im sure. No more margarita night for me lol.

  • I drank before I found out with DS and there were no problems. My OB said it was fine. Having drinks before finding out happens a lot. Everything should be fine. Did you discuss your concern with your OB other than them giving you a pamphlet?

  • You're totally fine, don't stress :) Just anecdotally, I have ditched my nightly glass of red wine for a nightly glass of sparkling water, just to mimic the same routine. DH and I have affectionately dubbed this my "Preggers Sparkling Water" or PSW

  • My OB is super conservative and she told me it was fine to drink until I got a positive test......and I definitely did, with this pregnancy and with my son. Please don't worry.
  • Thanks everyone. I feel a little better. I had read elsewhere that it's fine as long as you stop when you find out. But this pamphlet was very bitchy about it and I was like whoa...maybe it's way more serious than I thought. I'm not a big drinker and I don't smoke or anything else so I don't have a problem stopping. My husband stopped smoking months ago because we decided we are going to try. He sounds like me now, when people are rudely standing right in front of doorways or in crowds of people and light up a cig. "Maybe my baby doesn't want your second hand smoke...." (I said it even before actually getting pregnant) So proud of him :)
  • I was hungover the morning I got my BFP. I have (obviously) not had a drink since then. It happens a lot more than you think, and everything turns out fine.

  • I know reading about it on the packet was probably really scary, but seriously I don think you have anything to worry about it. Soooo many people drink before seeing a BFP and they have healthy babies. I drank before I knew I was pregnant with my dd, and she is the picture of health.
  • I drank the night before I got my BFP with both babies. First one turned out ok :) I'm sure the second one will too!
