Chewing and nursing

So LO today has been chewing and unlatching /relatching repeatedly today. My nipples are screaming. I don't feel any bumps on her gums and she isn't drooling...just chewing on everything ...including me. Do I just let her do this? Do I stop nursing for a few seconds or tell her no and then resume nursing? I know this will come up again once teeth come through. So how is this handled...ftm here. Thanks.

Re: Chewing and nursing

  • LO does this to me occasionally. I pull her away from my chest and give a firm "no!" It seems to startle her a bit and then I usually get a huge gummy grin, lol. It dies work most if the time...it kinda snaps her out of it.
Is it possible she is frustrated with your let down? When mine chews it's usually because she wants more milk quickly so I switch sides for the faster flow.

  • B hasn't chewed my boob, but sometimes she'll unlatch and relatch repeatedly. Ouchy! Sometimes she does it while her eyes are closed and she's crying. When she does this it's usually bc she's overtired and I just try to sooth her and get through it. Other times she does it when she's not crying so I just assume she's not hungry or done eating so I put the boob away and try again when she's hungry. I don't think at this age, they can understand "no". Hopefully you can figure out why she's doing and deal with that. GL!

My LO has been pulling off the boob to shove his little fingers in his mouth. I put him back on the boob a few times and then usually put the boob away until he's more focused. I haven't told him NO, but I do get frustrated.
