Straw cup recommendation please

DS is still using sippy cups (he's great with it), but I'd like to transition him to straw cups for water. I think we will stick with sippy cups for milk.

There are about a gazillion straw cups out there, with two gazillion reviews. I'm having the hardest time deciding! I know they are cheap, but I hate to waste money on buying something that is not useful (or something I ended up hating).

My wish list for a straw cup is:

1) easy to clean

2) doesn't leak

3) fairy durable, can handle being dropped

4) preferably with some kind of a cover for the straw end so it's not exposed to everything when I put it in my backpack

I was going to suggest these too. They are the best I've found though in my experience no cup is totally leak proof... we've tried A LOT!

We love our Thermos Foogo cups. They're leak proof, durable (since they're stainless steel), and easy to clean because they don't have that lip on top that most other cups do (that the cover screws on to).

We had Zoli Bots which are great because the straw can get every last drop out, but they leak a lot. We recently got these Nuby cups and they actually do not leak at all. We have tried the playtex, nuby, and munchkin cups. So far the munchkin cups work best for us - i like the clip-grip, they don't leak too much, and can handle being dropped (or thrown)

I haven't find any that I love but we are using the Nuby as my son seemed to like it the best. Some of the leakproof ones seemed to be really hard to suck out of (i.e. Nuby) so just keep that in mind. I actually have to make a cut inside of the straw as there is a plastic part that makes it leakproof. This makes it easier for him to suck out of and it is practically impossible without doing this. Like PP mentioned, my son holds it kinda horizontally when he uses it and then the straw seems to be outside of the liquid if it isn't completely full, which is not ideal. I'm going to look at speciality stores for ones that have all of the features that I'm looking for (leakproof but easy to suck out of, straw that goes to the bottom, etc.) as there aren't any at Target, Babies R Us, etc.

If you just want a water bottle that's good I'd get a small camel back or kleen kanteen type.

If you want a straw up for learning how to use a straw, I'd get the take n toss ones.

All of this. Leak free and straws don't really go hand and hand.

we love zoli bot, but haven't used it in the diaper bag, no not sure about its leak-proofness.

also, we are now starting with a regular cup for water-- I just fill as needed and dump out after at home. for diaper bag we bring her sippy.

this! we LOVE this straw cup because it actually doesn't leak at all!
now i'm trying to find a good insulated straw cup that will work as well as these

We love our Zoli Bots. They don't leak unless the lid isn't on properly, and you can buy replacement straws. All of our playtex and nuby cups got a funky smell after a month or so of use. I even boiled them and they never smelled clean, despite only being used for water. Blech. Our Zolis have held up much better .

We have a few Lansinoh mOmma cups. I bought them at Target awhile ago. They travel well and we haven't had any issues cleaning them.

We tried a sippy cup and when I was trying to teach my DD how to use it, I sucked on the nub and water shot down my throat...no wonder she never liked using it! It got the NUK straw cup and its perfect. Its leak proof (no leaks yet!), sips like a regular straw, and it has a flip so the straw is covered (its just really hard to reopen so your LO won't be able to do it himself). The only down side is cleaning. I don't take it apart because Im afraid Ill loosen the leak proof feature (although you can take it apart if you wanted) but we only do water, no milk or juice, in them so cleaning isn't a huge issue for me.

LOLLACUP. It's awesome. It has the weighted straw so every last bit of liquid gets sucked up. It closes so it doesn't leak. It has removable parts so it's easy to clean. The only downfall is it's a bit pricey. I have two and they were well worth the money.

I like these, too. They are very sturdy and fairly leak-proof. I don't know why PPs are making such a big deal about using a leak-proof straw cup. It's convenient to hand my kid a water cup for the 30+ minute commute from daycare. Take and toss are great for home. Practicing regular cups is great at home. But for goodness' sake, sometimes you just need to give your kid a drink without soaking the whole car. Plus, DD loves opening and closing the top herself.

We received these as a gift and they are wonderful. We've tried a few others, but I really like how the lid slides and covers the straw. The only problem is that unaltered, it is really difficult to drink out of them. After noticing DS having trouble with them, I used a knife to exaggerate the perforation in the rubber spacer between the straw and the lid. After that, the cups are absolutely perfect and do not leak at all.
