Trying to Get Pregnant

Cycle Length Changes

Hey ladies,

I am in the home stretch of my 2ww and AF was due today if I am on a 28 day cycle.  I have been on a 28 day cycle for as long as I can remember and for sure as long as I have been trying to get pregnant until last month which turned out to be a 30 day cycle. You're like clockwork til your not, huh?!

So I'm wondering if I should expect to keep my 30 day cycle going forward or assume it'll go back to 28 days... ?

Have you had cycle length changes ever go back to what they were before or did they tend to stay with the new length?

Thanks for the help!

Trying to have baby #1 since April 2013

DH SA March,May 2014 - Low motility and shape issues. On vitamins per RE to help

Me testing April 3, 2014 - FSH and LH good, HSG showed blocked right tube

April 29, 2014 - First RE appt., right tube needs to be removed and possibly left also if

it's bad too. RE suggests going straight to IVF

June 4, 2014 - LAP/HSC and unexpected endo. removed but tubes got to stay!

June 13, 2014 - Post-Op appointment. We decide where to go next since main issue

is MFI influenced. Trying naturally until decision... Repeat SA  in September. Aiming for IUI #1 November 2014.

Re: Cycle Length Changes

  • Personally mine is anywhere from 24-28 days. It is typically around 24 but I always have random months!

  • Cycle length changes could be a one time deal but cycles can also change for a while/permanently. My cycles were normally 28-30 days pre- BCP and now they're 40-45 post BCP so I guess that's my new "normal." I don't know if I'll ever go back to my shorter cycles. So yes, mine have changed in length.
  • I typically have 24-28 day cycles with a few 30+day cycles thrown in.  I hadn't had a cycle over 28 days until the last year or so.  You never know, that's why temping is so helpful.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.
  • My cycles were 42 days for about 5 years and then they changed and became anywhere between 35-42 days and then after I had my son, they've been anywhere between 28-39 days. Cycles can change at any time. If you are not temping, I would strongly recommend it. If you learn how long your luteal phase is, you can learn to predict when AF will come and when you might actually be "late". Otherwise you can't really know since you cannot pinpoint ovulation.

  • I range from 28-34 days, generally settling at the 30 day mark. I don't temp but do use OPKs and find that my period will show up 13-15 days after my +OPK (I use CBE Advanced). I do think temping or using OPKs takes a lot of guesswork out. I also do not test until a day after my average cycle length, I know some people don't test until a day after their longest cycle length. That works for me. I think it's perfectly normal to vary a few days, for example I would have told you a year ago that all of my cycles were the same length because I almost always started on the 3rd day of the month. Of course, when months start getting longer and shorter, that means your cycle shifts even if your period starts on the same day of the month.

  • I'm just weird my cycles have been 28-29 days for two years except the cycle after my d&c and I'm sure it will be longer this time too since I had another d&c.

  • Mine vary from 28 (last month) to 34 to even as long as 38 a few times, but an average of 32. They've never really been a clockwork, regular thing so of course that adds to the general mind f#$% of the two-week wait because I never really know when I am "late"!

    September: 49
    August: 32
    June/July: 42
  • I've always had a 30 day cycle. I've never had anything but that number. This month, however I'm on day 52. I keep getting negative tests as well. And of course, This is the one month I decided to take a break from temping. I have no idea what's going on. So yep "you're regular until your not".

    God's timing is perfect!

  • In 16 cycles, most of mine were 31-34 days.  Then I had a 50 day one, and a 27 day one thrown in there too.  You're regular until you're not, which is why I like using OPKs and temping, at least then I know (or have a better idea) of what's going on.

  • My cycles after BCP were 27-29 days, then around month 15 I had a 32 day cycle and the next was 26.  It is completely normal to have a "wacky" cycle occasionally, although I don't think a few days longer is enought to consider a cycle "wacky."

This cycle I didn't ovulate until CD 20, so I am guessing that it will be around 35 days.  I am guessing my "later" ovulation is due to either my c/p or the fact that this is my first unmedicated cycle after two rounds of IVF.

  • Mine have been, but are not limited to:
    October: 35
    September: 49
    August: 32
    June/July: 42

These look like my numbers. I'm 6 months post BC so I still blame it on that, but my cycles weren't regular before going on BC at 16.
  • My cycles changes after I had my son.  I never paid that much attention before then, but pre-baby, I was all over the place with longish cycles - anywhere from 35-45 days.

My first post-partum period was 39 days long and since then my cycles have been consistently 29-33 days long.  My LP is only 11 days now, so my suspicion is that it is shorter since giving birth but I probably still ovulate around the same time each cycle.
