Would you?

Attend a wedding 5 hrs away and stay the weekend 3 weeks before your due date? I feel like it's too close what if something was to happen. I can't even imagine how being in a car that long would be comfortable too. What would you do?

Re: Would you?

  • Depends on who was getting married, but I would probably skip it. In fact, I've already used this pregnancy to skip two weddings. They both were 5 hours away, and at the time we hadn't announced, so I didn't want to deal with the whole fake-drinking thing.

  • No.  that would be a LONG time to sit in the car.  I went to a wedding, 2 hours away, at 35 weeks last time and the drive was miserable and while I had a good time at the wedding, I basically sat at the table the whole time because my feet hurt if I stood for more than a few minutes at a time.

  • Yeh definitely depends on who is getting married. If it's your first I wouldn't worry too much about going into labor that early unless your mom had all her kids that early or you're at risk of preterm/early labor or precipitous labor (under 3 hours). But I totally used being pregnant to get out of wedding I did not want to go to in freaking CA (we live in VA) & to get out of a trip to visit family in OK.

  • Nope. That five hour drive will take seven with pee breaks. Plus I delivered DS at 37w...so no way doc would clear me for that.

Iv honestly been looking for any excuse not to go! haha it's my fiancés girl cousin. I feel like people would understand? Right?
  • I am required by my insurance to be 2 hrs from home from 36 weeks on. So, no. And even if I didn't have that requirement, I still would not go.

  • I love when I get the answers I want! :D thanks guys!
  • I went to visit family when I was 35 weeks pregnant and they live 9 hrs away. The drive was OK, sitting that long hurts my hips. But I wasn't worried about going into labor. Just depends on what you're comfortable with.
  • No.  I went into labour at 37w5d with DS so there is not way I'd drive 5 hours away that soon before my due date.

  • We drove 8 hours for a wedding when I was 30 weeks. I was so puffy and miserable the whole time. I also started sobbing in the car at one point because I had to pee so bad and there wasn't anywhere to stop. So, yeah...I wouldn't so it!

  • I don't think so. It's a little too close to the due date for comfort, but really - it is going to be an uncomfortable trip.

If you're looking for a reason not to go I'd say being 37 weeks pregnant is a perfectly acceptable excuse! I personally wouldn't go in this scenario.
  • If it was some one I really cared for I would do it but otherwise I would skip it. Really at that point I was so uncomfortable and that is a long time in a car.

  • I wouldn't.  My son was born 11 days early.  Granted that's less than 2 weeks but 3 is too close for comfort for me to be that far away.

  • Nope! I even know a FTM who didn't have any history and she delivered a month early.

  • Unless it was my best friend or a sibling I would skip it.

  • My first child came 4 weeks early. My 2nd would have probably been overdue if he hadn't been evicted (RCS).  You never know with babies.

Unless it was my sibling getting married or something, I would skip it.  That's too close to comfort for me.

  • I'd decline.  I would not sit that long in a car at 37 weeks pregnant and risk going into labor that far away from home.

  • Definitely not, but my water broke two weeks early with my son and I'm being closely monitored this time so, no travel for the entire month before my due date.  I would check with your doctor but I don't think it would be good to sit in the car that long and risk being so far away if you went into early labor.

  • I would not.  Even if you go late, at 37 weeks, you're pretty huge and basically breathing is uncomfortable.  I would say 2 hours in the car max would have been my threshold at that point.

  • I'm so glad you asked this. We have a wedding two weeks before my due date and its a 3 hour drive.
  • Nope I wouldn't. I think it would stress you out too much! Plus if you don't want to go anyway...
  • It would totally depend on how I felt at the time so it would be hard to RSVP as a maybe.

  • I've been told not more than an hour from the hospital after 36 weeks (granted the women in my family typically deliver like the snap of two fingers, I'm not counting on it), but my midwives are being diligent. As PP stated, some insurance policies will charge you an arm and a leg if you deliver out of network.

  • My midwife already nixed the trip to Nebraska for a dear friend's wedding in April.  She said I need to be within 2 hours of my hospital from 36 weeks on.  I'm sending my husband unescorted.  :-)
