Nose Frida

My poor little girl has had a stuffy nose for over a month. We've done saline drops, bulb syringe, sitting in a steamy bathroom & a humidifier but nothing offers great relief. I've heard how great Nose Frida is but the idea of it grosses me out. Have any of you mommas used it? If so, did it work? Do you like/hate it? I'm thinking of getting one because I feel like we've done everything else. TIA!

Re: Nose Frida

  • I use mine pretty much every other day. Works great pulls out all kinds of boogies from way in the back. I can use it much quicker than the bulbs.
There's a filter in it just before the suction tube that prevents any boogies from going anywhere near your mouth.

Looooove ours!! Gets the biggest boogies from the back. It's amazing. I use saline drops, run shower during her bath for the steam, then suck those bad boys out.

Eta: boogies and your mouth don't come in contact. There is a filter and a long tube. Boogies stay at the entrance of the device. No need to be grossed out.
  • Use it all the time. Greatest thing ever. Use saline drops with it to get the most out with it.

  • I think the general consensuses on this board was that the Nose Frida is pretty much the bee's knees. I love mine. Use it all the time. I too was grossed out at the idea, but once you see it and how it works there are really no risks of booger/snot inhaling. And I get a weird satisfaction out of pulling out a mass of boogies!

  • Ours is sitting in our medicine caninet just itching to be used. I bought it when LO had a cold 2 months ago and I swear the second the purchase was official all her boogies went away. I was just the teeeensiest disappointed. But I'm using it the second I see a need for it.

  • The tube is so huge and I don't get THAT many boogies out to even get anywhere near the filter let alone my mouth. It works great!

  • Use it every other day at least and love it! LO doesn't fight it anywhere near as much as the bulb syringe.

  • Yes- the thing is amazing! I also get a sick sense of accomplishment when I get a good boogie!
  • I'm sorry, but what is wrong with you? Your baby has been congested for a month and you are too 'grossed out' to do something about it?! Maybe this belongs in UO but I'm sick of moms saying the nose Frieda is too gross for them when their little one is sick and having problems breathing. News flash, motherhood is going to get a lot more disgusting, so put your big girl panties on and help your baby breathe!

  • I like it because I can change up the suction power and patterns to break up the snot. I tend to suck in little breaths at a time, relying more on the suction in my mouth than my lungs. Works great and mimics how I would blow my own nose which couldn't be done with a bulb suction. The snot doesn't even come close to the filter either.

What's wrong with me taking my child to the doctor on more than one occasion for allergies & sinus drainage and following all of the recommendations they've given? Nothing. What's wrong with me asking about a device that no one I personally know has ever used from a group of moms of whom some of them might have tried it? Nothing. I have done plenty to take care of my baby but thanks for trying to imply that I don't. Clearly me asking for opinions on something that I'm considering getting to help my baby is an indication of me not doing anything.
  • There's a filter that prevents you from getting her germs or boogers in your mouth.

Hydrasense also makes one for babies. I got mine at Walmart in the pharmacy section. It's a bit cheaper than the nose frida.

  • The boogers aren't going in your mouth, there's nothing to be grossed out about.

We use it everyday. It works.

Umm, sorry, but this is a bit harsh. @starshower22 was asking a legit question about a product. She has tried everything else, including a bulb. I'm fine with snark when due but "what's wrong with you?" Really?

I was super grossed out at first but after trying everything you did and several pedi trips, I gave in and bought one. I would gag every time for the first few tries, but got over it quickly. Definitely the best tool for congestion. Good luck!!

  • I had a hard time with the gross factor but it's SO worth it!

  • I get a lot of satisfaction out of using mine. I think I am gross because I wasn't grossed out haha.

After reading this thread during our MOTN feeding, forget dreaming of a white Christmas...I totally dreamed of the nose frida :-p

  • I totally can't get the hang of that thing or something. I never get anything out but LO sounds congested every morning. I'm thinking it's more up in his sinuses because his nose looks clear. He also thinks its a game and laughs every time I try to use it lol.

  • @sparks4stp are you using saline drops before you try? That helps loosen stuff up

  • I did a couple of times. I should try it again. It's such a struggle to do anything to his nose. He squirms so much!

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies! I'll pick one up today and we'll give it a try.
  • The nose frida is one of the best baby items I have purchased. It will now be gifted to all of my pregnant friends!
  • I use it frequently when my kids have a cold. There is zero possibility of the snot getting into your mouth.

  • Love ours! I was grossed out when I heard about it, but it's definitely not gross!
  • It works so much better than a bulb syringe, and you don't have to place it in her nose.  Takes a LOT of lung power to get those boogers out; whenever I use ours, the mucous barely makes it a third the way up the tube.  Highly recommend, once you get past the skeeve factor.

  • Sorry I came across as too harsh @starshower22 - my little guy is on day 3 of a nasty cold which means no sleep (hence the 3am post)

There is nothing wrong with you asking for our feedback on the Nose Frieda, but there have been multiple posts about it. You also never mentioned taking your little one to the doctor for treatment in your first post. Honestly, I think it's odd that they didn't recommend the Nose Frieda from the get go (our pedi did before LO even got his first cold).

You just got the brunt of my annoyance with multiple moms (& dads) being too worried that the Nose Frieda is gross. Go on any site you'll see parents raving about it's necessity. Personally, if i hadn't had the NF just one day into my guys first cold, I would have been running out to get it (or searching for something like it if I didn't know about it).

I can't imagine what you've been going through with your babe being congested for a month. I sincerely hope she gets well soon.
  • I love it. definitely worth it

I totally understand being short on parience & ready to snap at anyone. I feel that way too since I spend most of my nights awake with DD. I appreciate your post and hope your little guy is better soon! I figured there probably had been some posts about the Nosefrida (I haven't heard much about them IRL that's why I didn't think to get one sooner) but I've been a bad Bumpie and absent lately & was too lazy to look back for a recent thread. I literally just bought the Nosefrida (way harder to find in a store than I thought!) so I'm heading home to give it a try. FX that DD doesn't hate it as much as the bulb syringe!
  • We ordered ours off amazon!! We have prime shipping; should be here for Friday!

I love Amazon Prime!! If I hadn't found one today at a store I would have ordered one from Amazon with 1 day shipping.
  • I got one tonight but forgot the saline drops. LO was super squirmy so it didn't work to well but better than the ball aspirator. Only thing I noticed was the air I was sucking in made me cough. But I think we'll end up liking it.
  • It takes some practice.  When we first got it, DH has to keep her head steady for me, so I could de-booger her with it.  Helps to have a partner the first few times you try it.  :)

  • Well we gave it a try last night. It definitley takes some practice (and an extra set of hands for our squirmy baby) but I was able to get quite a bit of gunk out! I think after a few more tries I'll have it down but I can see how much better it is than the bulb syringe. Yay! Thanks ladies for all of your input!
  • I purchased it after a recommendation on this thread. It seemed gross to me at first but after a better look at it, you can see that the design prevents snot from getting into the mouth.

I am not a big fan of it though. LO never stays still enough for me to use it correctly. He is not a big fan either. We were able to get more snot from the simple bulb syringe.
