We had LO two month checkup today and the doctor told us we should get her in her crib. I guess the swing in the living room isn't acceptable.:( anyways, we are trying tonight, she keeps waking up after about 10 minutes.
We did that last night, lasted 5 minutes..... Rocked her back to sleep and put her back in her swing/chair. We started with naps during the day, she lasts between 45 mins and 2 hours. Will keep trying naps for a couple more days, then do nights again.
I thought it was recommended to have child sleep in the same room as the parent. For at least the first 6 months.
This. And if LO likes the incline of the swing could you try the RNP in your room to ease the transition? I know right now there's no way LO would sleep in her crib at night and I'm okay with that. We are gradually working towards naps in the crib and she's almost 7 weeks old.
I don't really get the whole 6 month thing. I have a video monitor and motion sensor and she is in crib. I think that's safer than keeping her in the PnP where the only monitoring is me getting up to check and see if she's breathing.
Oh yes, we have a few white noise things and she just got the Musical soother aquarium for Hanukkah tonight. She's been fixated on that and falls asleep but then wakes up. We've also had her in our room but she's such a loud sleeper she keeps us up all night. I go back to work in January and i would really like to have her in her crib. So we've has to go in there 4 times, we started at 9:30 so it's going on an hour and a half. I told my husband I'm giving it two hours then she's back in the swing!

Motion sensor definitely helps, but not everyone has that. When a dr makes a recommendation it is pretty generalized.
I've been doing naps in her crib for the past week but she's not a napper. She takes cat naps but I get in her in there as soon as ahw starts cat napping.
@bkeane619 It's speculated that sids is linked to the inability to self arouse from sleep. Being in the same room as parents (instead of a silent room alone) and hearing them breathing, moving etc. helps them to regulate their breathing and keep from drifting into too deep of sleep. Or so I've heard..
Maybe the pediatrician recommended sleeping in a crib because sleeping in a swing is not a safe sleep position, especially overnight? I am sure that a crib or pack n play in the parents room is ideal. But any safe sleep surface beats a swing, for safety purposes.

I'd think regulated breathing would Promote deep sleep for baby... >.>
Well we tried until 11:30 so for two hours and she kept waking up. I gave in so she's back in the swing. I'll give it another go tonight. Hopefully if I keep trying it'll just "click" and she'll like it.
If you haven't already, try putting a heating pad down to hear up the mattress before you lay her in it next time. Just make sure you remove it before you lay her down.
Building on the others, I think he was just concerned about the swing (at least I hope). Please learn that doctors make medical decisions and give medical advice. *You* make parenting decisions. If you can keep that in mind, your stress level will be lower as you trust yourself in your parenting, taking into account the advice others offer you (wether you ask for it or not).
Try making the crib feel smaller by using rolled up blankets under the sheet. Also, she's used to sleeping upright rather than flat so consider elevating one end of the mattress with a wedge made for that or something under the matress. The heating pad is a good idea.
Screw the doc...if mine said that I'd be looking for another one. As long as your LO is safe, there's no reason that they have to be in a crib. Stupid advice from your doc, sorry.
We had her in the crib for 2 hours last night but ended up putting her in her swing. She kept waking herself up in the crib, we'd go in there and run and talk to her until she was sleeping but she's wake right back up. I think she really just hates laying flat on her back. She'll sleep in the rock and play which let's her sleep in an incline but flat on her back isn't working. Also, she has mild reflux so when I lay her in the crib after eating she spits up but she doesn't do that in her rock n play or swing.
We've tried her in our room but she's such a loud sleeper that we wake up and then I lay there a night thinking she's going to wake, it's not good for either if us. She makes crazy noises in her sleep.

So then why are your torturing her by laying her down? And CIO for 5 minutes is not cool either. Put the RnP in another room, or leave her in the swing and don't turn it on. Many pedis have told women over the years to let LOs sleep in swings, car seats, etc because of reflux. It's not a dire situation that needs fixing ASAP.

Yep, this. It's not really important for them to be in the crib at this point and she obviously doesn't like it. And really, letting a newborn cry it out for 5 minutes is pointless.

It really isn't safe for your little one to sleep in either a swing or car seat when you are not actively supervising.
Although many pediatricians also do not recommend rock n plays for overnight sleep due to the increased SIDS risk, I have actually heard some pediatricians recmmend them for reflux babies (the aap absolutely does not recommend sleeping in swings/car seats).
Maybe elevate the crib mattress from underneath the mattress? That is what we do and it is really helpful. Also, maybe try Zantac if the reflux is as severe as you indicate?
I'll try her In the rock n play in her room tonight, the doctor made it sound really important to have her in her crib, that's the only reason we are doing this. She also said at this point (9weeks) she needs to start learning how to put herself to sleep, now that I'm hearing conflicting things from everyone I'm questioning letting her cry for 5 mins.
I took your advice and last night was more successful. I've moved her RnP in her crib (yes it's in her crib) she slept there for a 3 hour strech (which was much less than when she sleeps in her swing, she usually sleeps 4-6 hours in the swing) but that's a start. After her 1am feeding she for so upset when I put her back in there so after an hour of rocking and trying to get her in there I gave in and put her back on the swing where she slept for 5hours. I just fed her again and tried the RnP in the crib yet again and she went down with no problem. It's progress and I'm pretty sure her pediatrician would be happy to hear she's at least in something that's not rocking her all night long and in her nursery.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm just curious how this works. I'm imagining a princess and the pea situation...

Yeah , and how do you rock it when it's in there? I'm so confused. I think I need a pic of this.
The mattress is on its lowest setting so she's completely safe. The mattress is pretty firm so I can rock it. It's not anymore unsafe then her being in a rock and play on the floor. She is buckled in, we got a wombie swaddle blanket so it has legs which allows me to buckle her right in.
I just don't understand why you don't put the RnP on the floor. She can't see over the sides so she doesn't know she's in the crib...
Exactly what I was thinking. What's the rationale?
I would feel very uncomfortable putting baby in a rock n play when you aren't in the same room to supervise. And it is definitely not made to be used in a crib...don't understand that at all!
If you have to use a rock n play, at least sleep within earshot, so hopefully you would be able to catch any positional apnea or other apnea episodes that may occur due to the deep sleep that the rock n play can induce.
Your pediatrician would definitely not support this current plan, if that is why you are doing it. It might be a tiny bit better than sleeping in the swing, but not much at all...
