This is one of the only things in life that DH and I violently disagree on... now that we're actually going to have a child shit may hit the fan in our marriage. :)

  • Typically the "big present" is left unwrapped and all set up under the tree!

  • of course it's wrapped! And it's personally signed From: Santa

  • Yes! And we use really nice paper with Santa on it for gifts from him!

  • Of course Santa's presents are wrapped.

  • Yes for me. But I know a Santa that doesn't have time to wrap but the elves put together everything when they make the toys. So no boxes and instructions are left.
  • Kids LOVE to unwrap presents, so I wrap as much as i can and save the gift bags for adults.  Same with birthdays.  WRAP ALL THE THINGS!

  • No. DD's getting a fishtank with fish and accessories from Santa. That sucker is not getting wrapped but I might make a tulle bow or something to make it look nicer. Only the big present and the stocking stuffers are from Santa. Anything else is wrapped from Mommy and Daddy.

  • No way!! Unwrapped, all set up in a beautiful display, grouped together by child so that as soon as everyone turns the corner, they KNOW what pile is theirs! Batteries and other necessary things to make stuff work have already been put in. Santa's presents get a solid 20-30 minutes of attention before anyone things about opening any of the wrapped gifts!
  • Of course Santa's presents are wrapped.
I was going to say exactly this.  In special wrapping paper and signed in very special secret handwriting.

If its a huge gift like a bike or something it may not get wrapped but it at least gets a huge bow on it!

  • AGH!! You guys have me so excited for when my girls are big enough to get excited about presents! Christmas is just way more magical with kids around:)

  • Santa's gifts were always wrapped in special paper with tags signed by the big man himself!  Everything was wrapped including all the stocking stuffers.  I can't wait to carry that tradition on.

  • In my family Santa does not wrap the presents.  My sisters and I each had a big decorative Christmas bag with our names on it that "Santa" would fill with presents. That's one of the ways we knew Santa had been to our house.  We knew Santa had been to our house when those bags were full of presents and our Christmas stockings were filled.  Of course, we had presents wrapped underneath the tree, but they were all from family members.

  • Wrapped, but here he doesn't use special paper or handwritting. It looks identical to mom & dad gifts. But here is also only one gift from Santa.

Well maybe Santa doesnt but the elves do....right?!

Of course, I'm sure Santa delegates this... And it has to be in special paper that looks old-school/vintage. Cuz Santa is classy like that.

  • My family never wrapped the gifts from Santa.....I never even thought of wrapping them! I like the special paper idea....hmmmm.  I need to ask DH what he did growing up.

  • I've never, ever heard of Christmas presents that weren't wrapped. Ever. The only exception would be something like a bike that isn't really wrap-able.

I love @limedrops suggestion of assembling everything before wrapping, though. Time consuming, but well worth the effort.

  • Santa never wrapped my gifts growing up (lazy so-and-so), but I know my husband's Santa gifts were always wrapped in special paper. That's what I plan on doing for our little guy in the future because, let's face it, babies care WAY more about the boxes and wrapping paper and bows than they do the gifts anyway! I also really like the idea of each child's gift wrapped in different special Santa paper.

  • This will be the first year that Santa exists in our house and DS is excited about it. He doesn't even unwrap his own presents; he'll unwrap a couple, start playing with his toys and leave the rest for us to do. We'll see how this year goes. We don't do any special wrapping paper but put special gift tags on the boxes that are from Santa. This year, we'll probably do a special wrapping paper since DS actually talks about Santa and seems excited about it.

I put yes, but I grew up with Santa filled the stocking and our stockings weren't "big enough" so there was always a huge pile of presents around the stocking. DH and I haven't had that kind of money, and MIL has been doing Santa for the kids. She wraps the presents with special paper.

ETA: DS1 is big enough to recognize that Santa has MIL's handwriting.

  • "Santa" always put our presents unwrapped in groups, one pile for each kid. I think he *might* have wrapped them when we were little, but after brother number 2 he stopped.

  • Hell yes Santa wraps his presents!  haha!

I even buy special wrapping paper that I hide out specifically for wrapping "santa" gifts.  My daughter is sold.  This year Santa got One Direction wrapping paper to go with all the One Direction shit I bought her!  She'll probably faint.

  • Santa brings the big gifts, so no wrapping paper here. Last year he brought a rocking horse. It had a big bow on it. Stocking stuffers are wrapped.

  • All of the presents get wrapped. In our house growing up all the gifts were from Santa until we knew better. It never occurred to me to have "Santa" gifts and then gifts from us.

  • This thread is blowing my mind.  There are actually people who don't wrap presents from Santa?!?
I too am stunned at this no wrapping Santa gifts! Every holiday movie I have seen, gifts from Santa are ALWAYS wrapped by the elves!

I definitely agree the special handwriting is a must. Santa signs with big curly letters. *edit-spacing

YES. AND IN SPECIAL WRAPPING PAPER. END OF DISCUSSION. :)

    ::gavel::

I even hide the paper at work so DS1 won't see it.

Also, it MUST have Santa on it and no other paper with Santa is allowed.

  • Nope!!! All of our gifts were always wrapped EXCEPT Santa's one gift for each of us children.
  • Wrapping Santa gifts?!

    image
  • Ok those of you who wrap stocking stuffers, what are all of you considering stocking stuffers??? Our stockings were always full of the travel section at target: Kleenex, scotch tape, travel toothpaste, maybe a chocolate Santa, small ornament. Is that typical? Nothing really over $3-4
  • The elves do it for him and he brings them wrapped to place under the tree!
  • Oh, and all presents wrapped, nothing opened until Christmas morning (and teeth brushed and beds made....I know my parents wanted to linger in bed...) and Santa wrapped and signed everything including note thanking us for cookies, egg nog and carrots for his reindeer :)
