Colds

If your LO has had their first cold -

How many weeks were they?
How long did it last?
What were their symptoms?

My LO is 12 weeks and we are 4 days into congestion, coughing, warmth (but nothing higher than 99.5, she's usually around 97-98), major fussiness (who could blame her), and increased drool/spit up. She threw up once but it was totally my fault because I tried to clear her nose after she ate, bad idea. I feel so bad for her and I can't decide when I should call the pedi. It's worse when she wakes (morning or from naps) and even though she scream/fusses more, she'll still play and smile throughout the day, she's still eating, she still has wet and poopy diapers.... It's just so hard to listen to her breath and scream when she wakes up.

Does she sleep w a humidifier? Do you have saline spray? Those seem to help move things along for DS who is 6 days into a cold. I bring him into the bathroom when I shower too. The worst thing for him has been his diarrhea from the mucus which has cause horrible diaper rash/burn. My Pedi said as long as wet diapers, eating and no temp, you just have to let it run its course. Hope your little one feels better soon

Edit: Jacob is 12 weeks old

Yes to both. She absolutely HATES the saline spray. We live in an apartment and I'm afraid my neighbors are going to call cps on us when we use them! Poor baby.

Hope your LO feels better soon!

  • Lo is 11 weeks and has an upper respiratory infection. He was choking an coughing at night and had a temp of 99.7. He also had lime green poop in a few diapers. We are day 5 into the cold. We are using the humidifier, saline drops and the bulb saringe. He does not like the saline drops either. Each day he seems to get better then come morning it acts up again. dr said it should run its course by day 7.

  • DD actually caught one at 2 weeks. There was an awful cold going around, and she got it from me because I caught it at the pedi's office. In any case, we did the saline drops, Nose Frida, humidifier, and lots of BFing. It took her quite a while to get over it. Now she has another slight cold, but it's not as bad as her first one.

  • My LO got our awful cold that me DH and my two older DDs had. For us it was 3 weeks long and pretty awful but luckily she only got minor congestion. It is so hard when they get a cold so little.

  • Sophie currently has a cold. She is sneezing and coughing you can hear all the congestion when she does both. We have a humidifier. And we have been using the saline and a nose sucker. She has been sleeping a bit more so I hope she is able to get rid of it soon. Shes only had it a couple days

  • This seems like a dumb question but how do you determine diarrhea from normal poop. LO's poop is always runny and often explosive. She had a cold around 8 weeks and we did saline, nose Freda and humidifier and she seemed fine in a few days. She did have more spit up than usual probably from mucus but nothing projectile. Good luck!
