Nursery opinion needed (color of furniture)

Would love your thoughts - below is the crib I have my heart set on, not what I originally planned, but I fell in love with it (color is vintage gray). We are having a boy, so if you were me - would you order the large dresser in the same color??? Do you see any particular colors with it - glider, etc.? The nursery will be pretty mild in color scheme in my eyes but I'd appreciate your artistic flair, ladies. Thanks!

Re: Nursery opinion needed (color of furniture)

  • I love it! You could honestly do almost anything with a gray. :) I say ask if you can have a small sample of the wood color so that you can go take a look at bedding, and decide on one you love that matches. I would personally order the dresser in the matching color, but I love coordinated furniture sets and it's killing me just a little that the rocker doesn't match the crib and dresser in our nursery, but the sentimental value of the rocker trumps that (it was DH's when he was nursed).

  • I agree that furniture is gender neutral.  Given your choice on cribs I would choose the same color dresser and a neutral chair with brightly colored pillows/a throw blanket.  It will be easier to re-use it later if it's neutral and you can just change up the accessories as you like.

  • We're going with a gray crib, too, but don't know if it's a boy or girl yet. So, I'd agree that it's gender neutral. As far as furniture in general goes, I stick with neutrals that can be easily mixed/ matched with other pieces so it can evolve along with my tastes.

I think the dresser is beautiful, but I also think you could probably find another one that would go well too...and maybe save yourself some money.

Thanks for bringing that up about the dresser. The matching one that is is longer and lower doubles as a changing table - but it's still a little expensive... I have to look around more.

  • I think furniture color is really gender neutral and it up to your preferences.

I prefer dark wood myself. my entire house is dark Cherry or Expresso even DD's room. With her bedding and decor, it isn't masculine at all.
    This exactly.
What's crazy is I went to the place specifically to see a dark sleigh crib I wanted, but the jerks had this one at the front door... Hard decisions. :-)

We got a grey crib, too! I was planning to find a wood dresser on Craigslist and paint it. Like a dark teal or something. None of our wood furniture is from a set, though; I prefer to get stuff that "goes" but doesn't match.

    That crib is adorable!

  • I can't stand when things don't match so yes, I would order the matching dresser. To avoid having too much grey I think you could get a colorful glider? That wouldn't bother me. But all of our nursery furniture is in the same color and same "set" from the same company. We bought it with future babies in mind and plan to use it for all our kids.

Me, too on all of this, and I'm investigating gliders right now. :-)

I think that's a good idea. If all the furniture is a muted grey, you can do fun, colorful stuff with accents like the rocker, curtains, etc.

  • I don't know if I'm much help, but we are planning to use a color scheme that involves grey whether it's a boy or girl. Basically, for both it will have grey, white and teal and then if it's a boy - orange accents and if it's a girl - coral accents.

  • I personally would do at least two pieces of furniture with matching finish (I would say crib and dresser) and then you could do matching wood finishes for other pieces (like walnut, for the gliderand a shelf). That way it all matches, but it's not like a full too matchy-set).

Because the grey is so light (which I think is a gorgeous colour for a crib, by the way) I personally think that a navy on the wall would be cool. Almost neutral because almost anything would go with grey and navy and you could brighten it up with yellows or reds.

    Just my opinion though.

  • What a gorgeous set!  I love that they are going more contemporary with color choices.  Gray will go with anything.  I think you should have the furniture match and then have the accessories and color choice for the wall help it really sing.

    Nice pick!

  • Where did you find that crib?  I love it!  I'm doing a grey nursery and that would be perfect!
