Top Names of 2013

So baby center just posted the top baby names of 2013 and totally rocked my world. Anyone else now rethinking their name choice(s)?

https://www.babycenter.com/top-baby-names-2013

(I'm on my phone, but looked through to see if this had been added yet and didn't see it. Sorry if it's a repeat.)

Re: Top Names of 2013

  • Loading the player...
  • sapatel1 I think this list is for worldwide babycenter users, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure how popular the site is in India or China, but it's pretty well-used in the US and Europe, I think, so I think the top names will differ slightly than any one country's official list.

@MarBee1214 I feel your pain! MH's picks are all in there and just getting more popular, but my two favorites (that he won't even consider) are nowhere close...
  • Booo... our NN is up there, but whatever, I knew it was more popular.  I'm still glad DD1's name is so low on the list though.

  • Amelia is number 17 :(

I didn't want a common baby name... OH WELL !

  • I actually like the fact that the top contending name isn't on the list!

  • One of my fave boy names is up 2 spots in a year's time so I guess I am more willing to go with my back up which isn't even on the list.

@BMReid did you see you made the list?! And here you were the only one I know with that name.

  • Our name is not on the list but all put middle name options are very popular.
  • Only one of my kids names is in the top 100 and I'm perfectly fine with that. :) (And when I picked Carter's name it was #80 on SSA.  Now it's #26 on the BC list... oh well, it's a great name!)

  • Eh… Emme's given name is really high on the list but I've yet to meet another little Emily. The names on our short list for this LO are outside of the top 20 so I guess that's ok?

I never really pay enough attention to the name lists because the popular names are never really our style.

  • Woohoo! My LO's name didn't even make the list! My top girl's name is in the 50's but I would be okay with that.

  • Ours isn't on there, but DD2 is Sophia and DD3 is Ella. In my defense, I picked them both out of a book that I had from 2005 and didn't realize they were so popular.

  • We are not set on our name yet, I think that we have narrowed it down to two. I don't know if the list changes my mind, but it definitely has me thinking bc one of our names is in the top 5:(
  • Well all of my favorite names are on that list but the 2 top contenders aren't top 10..I'm ok with that:)
DD1's name isn't even on there!

  • My LO's name is onl the list... didn't really want a "common" name. But it's in the 40s; I guess that's acceptable.

  • VERY happy to see that NONE of our potential names are listed/ woohoo!!
  • LO's name is #10 (Jack).  Obviously I knew it would be somewhat common, but I actually didn't realize it was that high up.  It doesn't bother me though.

  • Baby girls name isn't on the list, but my sons name is (just not the way we spelled it).  We are one of those people that some of you ladies would say went you-neek with his name.  It is Kaiden for all you curious cats out there and I still love it.  :)

  • Hadn't realized Mia would be so high up [#5]. Whatev. I won't be changing it, because H and I still love it.

  • Considering we have yet to agree on a FN, I will be checking this list quite a bit. SO's top pick is at the bottom of the list which is okay with me. Her middle name isn't even on there. I wrote down a few names that I came across yesterday and showed it to SO last night. When he came to Aria he made a surprised face and said "it's different". I thought so but seeing as it's #27 on the list I guess it's only different in my region.   *sigh*   I wish we could agree on a name.

  • Our girl name isn't on here! WOOP WOOP! And since we were team green up until about a week ago when the U/S tech slipped and told us the sex, the girl name is the only one we have to worry about right now. And totally agree with the PP about the Ys in girl's names. Why?! Why?! (Pun totally intended)

  • Eh....all of our choices are somewhere on the list.  I should go check regionally, though and see where they fall. I don't think I'd change my choice even if it was higher, but interesting to see where everything falls.

  • We haven't settled on a name for DD#3 yet, but keep going back to Aubrey which is #15. Considering I am a Jennifer of the 80's and never had a class in school where I wasn't "jennifer K" because there were always a handful of us, I have to say it doesn't bother me. I was a shy kid and it actually helped give me something to talk to other kids about having the same name. I would love our kids to have unique names, but if they are popular thats ok too.

  • I knew we were choosing a VERY popular name when we chose (Emma), so this doesn't change my mind.  I'm actually kind of happy to see it's #2 instead of #1.  The popularity of the name was not something that deterred us, but I can see why some people like to avoid popular names.

(For fun I looked up our other favorite names for future children, and all are in the top 50 - we're boring :))

Our Baby Girl, Emma, changed our lives forever when she was born 12-19-13 <3
  • We're on the list but I'm comfortable with our spot :) I wouldn't have changed it anyway.
    Baby Boy #2
    Due Date 11/10/16
  • DS falls in the middle but his name is not super common in our area. This baby's name didn't make the list.

  • Our boy name isn't on the list but our girl name is in the top 20 (something I wanted to avoid). However, it's the only girl name DH and I seem to agree on so I'm debating whether or not to do anything about it. And we JUST agreed on it - only took us 7 months of "What do you think of 'x'?" "Eh, it's not my favorite. What do you think of 'x'?"

  • DD's name isn't on there. Baby boy's name is in the 20s. It's higher than I thought (it was in the 50s on the SS list last year), but I'm not shipping all of his monogrammed stuff back. ;)

FWIW, my daughter's name is Emma.  We really don't run into other EMma's that often.  She has never had an Emma in one of her classes.

I totally hear you! We finally agreed on one only to have it climb the charts. UGH. I am determined to AT LEAST avoid the top 20, so we're back to the drawing board, which isn't something I'm happy about because it took us forever to find one name we could both do. :-/
