If you have (or have had in the past) a real Christmas tree do you do anything special to take care of it? DH and I got our tree over the weekend (went to a tree farm and cut it down ourselves - so much fun) and I was wondering if there is anything special we should be doing to keep it fresh as long as possible. It's DH's first real tree, and the first time I've had one as an adult. I just figured that I should keep it watered, but someone mentioned to me this weekend that their family always "fed" the tree lemon-lime soda. I'd never heard of that and wondered if it's something I should consider. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to share?

Re: NBR: If you have a real Christmas tree
Before you put up the tree, trim the bottom. All we've ever done is water. My mom tried sugar water once, but the tree seemed to go downhill faster that year. Just be sure to check it a lot the first few days, because trees will suck back water initially and then start to slow down.
