BP Paranoia Rant

So I've been on bedrest since September, first for my Tachycardia which got a lot better so I was switched from strict to modified, and now it's back on strict for high BP. My BP for my first OB visit (At 6 weeks) was 134/60, which I later explained to OB after multiple problems with it, was unuasually high for me. My second trimester my BP was averaging 150-160/60-70, which OB said was not a concern.

Three weeks ago it was 154/99 in the office. I was laid on my left side and it immediately went to 114/58 my normal BP before I got pregnant. I did a 24 hour urine catch and found that my proteins were high, but not Pre E high? (I didn't get to talk to OB that appointment but a nurse, so not sure on this exactly) My readings have continued to be high for three weeks, putting me into L&D once.

Last night after a 6 hour constant headache which Tylenol did nothing for, dizziness, and pressure behind my eyes I went to L&D again. BP was 167/107. It went down to 135/70 by the time I left, but that was still higher than it normally goes down to when I lay down.... They did nothing but send me home, as my OB advised. I am still dizzy today, and have another headache, and have NO clue what to do as obviously my "High" BP is not high enough to OB.

A friend who was induced at 36 weeks for Pre E told me her doctor told her that readings as high as mine were the point at which they immediately intervene when she was pregnant, which I don't want! I know all doctors are different, and that OB is doing what she can but now I'm paranoid, and can't shake this feeling that something is wrong. I can't explain it but it's a gut feeling that I've had from the start that something's not right....

Any advice, or reassurance from anyone with BP issues, or who has had these problems with prior pregnancies? I could use a little advice on what to do..

Re: BP Paranoia Rant

  • I think all doctors are different.  My BP was always about 120/70 before I got pregnant. It actually always stayed around that until my 31 week appt when it started reading 140/80.  I had no proteins in my urine, I had blood work done (which all came back normal) and I was still immediately put on bed rest.  I now see her twice a week, and have NSTs done every time and blood work every Monday.  I am 33 weeks now, and still have nothing abnormal but HBP.  It still stays around the 140/80 area...

Her plan is even to induce or section me around 38 weeks if my BP is the same as its been....

I would talk to your OB about all your concerns.  They are there to help you.

Thoughts and Prayers are with you!
    Good Luck!
