Swaddle no more!

Our pedi told us to stop swaddling now that he is 3 mths old so that he can start to self soothe himself ! We're on day 4 and he is pretty noisy/restless throughout the night and hard to put down to bed. How did you transition your lo's to sleep without being swaddled? We swaddle his bottom half right now...

Re: Swaddle no more!

  • We will swaddle until he's rolling over. Or in the Magic Sleep suit. I think my baby would never sleep if it weren't for a swaddle.

  • I went cold turkey last night and she did great! We used a sleep sack. Woke up at her usual times. I'm hoping it wasn't a fluke. I made sure she was fully asleep before I put her down. I am totally shocked! She's 12 weeks.
  • I am another one who thinks I will have to swaddle forever. My LO will rub his eyes endlessly if I didn't swaddle him he also strains in his sleep like he's trying to poop and the swaddle helps calm that down. We were using the SwaddleMe but he easily got his arms out, now we are using the halo sleep sack which has much better Velcro and arm coverage and it's working much better. I am scared to transition out of it.

  • Everett was never big on swaddling.  We did it for the first month and after that he would wiggle out of it or freak out trying to free his hands after initially falling asleep.

He sleeps in the sleeveless Halo sleep sack now and does really well with it.  I put him in a long-sleeve onesie and then that on top.  I like that is has more length than Carter's brand because he is on the tall side and has room to move his legs around.

  • My LO will be swaddled until he can stop randomly smashing his own face with his fists. He is 11 weeks old.

  • Weirdly, I'm the other way around. From birth our baby girl refused to be swaddled and would just scream if we tried to secure her arms down and would always break free, although she always gets a bit crazy with her arms and kept waking herself up by hitting herself in the head. So finally at 7 weeks old we are now able to swaddle her and will wake up in the morning and she rarely breaks free anymore and sleeps better!
  • Swaddlers here, too. It's part of her bedtime routine. I tried the Halo sleep sack and she moved herself 90degrees in her PnP and is very restless. With the SwaddleMe she stays put and sleeps more soundly.
