EBF to WCM? What cup?

My daughter is only 8 months old, but I have been wondering about the transition for when it comes time to switch.

My DD EBF and never has taken a bottle. I never pump, but I do have one.

She drinks from a sippy cup and straw cup, but the majority of the water in it gets spit back out. She thinks it's fun to watch it go everywhere!

I have seen tons of people say they do "x amount of formula/breast milk with WCM" but if DD doesn't drink from a bottle how is this done?

I fear she will just spit it out of her sippy cups. Do they stop doing this as they get older?

Should I try to start giving her BM in the sippy?

OR...should I just give her all cows milk to begin with in a regular cup?

I'm at a loss how this works!?

Moms, how would you suggest this be done when the time comes?

Are you planning to wean right at a year? If you are not then I wouldn't be too concerned, just give her a sippy of milk and let her play around with it until she gets used to it.

Yes, I wanted to wean at a year, but continue night time breastfeeding until she doesn't want to anymore.

I'd start putting some BM in a straw cup now to get her used to it. Then at 1 year move her slowly over to WCM by dropping 1 feed at a time with the straw cup. Sippy cups (the ones with spouts) aren't to great for their teeth (kind of like with bottles and binkies) so it's highly suggested to do straw cups.

I am pretty much in the same boat and wondering how this is going to go since I nurse dd to sleep. I am hoping to just put WCM in her straw cup and her get adjusted to that. I am not going to try until after her bday party in case she has trouble with it. Also, i hope to still nurse for bed and as needed but wean from naps. In response to your question, she is much better at the straw cup now than at 8 months. However, she will still cough sometimes from trying to drink to fast and still likes to play with it but its gotten better.

I would start putting a little milk in a straw cup. If she starts spitting it out because she thinks it's funny, take the cup away, wait a minute, and give it back. We started doing this about a month ago when DD thought spitting was hilarious... Daycare teacher started taking it away too. It's helped a lot - I think we've only taken it away twice in the past week.

My DS is almost 13m now. He was also EBF and didn't take a bottle. We started him on sippy cup w/water at 7 months; took him 3 months to get a hang of using the sippy. At around 10-11m, we tried BM in a sippy (a different brand than the one for his water, so it looks quite different). I too was worried that he would just let all the BM drip out, but thank goodness he didn't!

I slowly weaned his nursing sessions down, starting when he turned 10m. We dropped 1 session/month, so he is now down to 3x/day (down from 6x/day).

A week after he turned 1, I introduced WCM in the sippy cup where he has BM. H e liked it right away, I didn't even have to mix WCM with BM. He is still nursing 3x/day, and he gets offered WCM 3-4x/day. But so far, he only drinks about 6oz of WCM a day. I assume he'll drink more when I drop him down to 2 nursing sessions/day
