GTKY: most prized possessions

I am on a super long car trip (15 hours) so I thought I would pose a fun question to read what you ladies have to say to pass the time...

Assuming all humans, pets, and important legal documents/money were safe outside the house, what are the three things in your home that you would choose to take with you in case of emergency (house fire, flood, etc). we are also assuming you have time to collect these items.

mine are:

1. love letters between my husband and I from when we were dating/cards we have given each other through our marriage.
2. a gold charm bracelet my mom made as I grew up--every year she bought me a charm for my bday relating to my "phase" (soccer, acting, etc) that year and for my 18th she gave me the bracelet to put them on.
3. a scrapbook of pictures/cards receipts, concert tickets, etc found in my dads house after he died. (he was killed in a motorcycle accident when I was pregnant in 2012.) I treasure his words and I have every single birthday card he gave me since age 5 to age 22.

My pillows. (That counts as 1 right? Even if there are four of them?)

My camera (with the computer) it's my entire work life.

The cradle my dad hand made for DD that I've used for DS as well and will be using for this LO as well. It's a family heirloom now.

did I see on another post that you are a photographer?? I am too! what's your website?

oh! journals is a good one! that should have def been on my list! not sure what I would exchange though---- I am a writer too--I have always kept a journal.

  • 1. Cellphone
    2. Engagement ring if I wasn't wearing it already. If i had it on I would grab the vintage broach I wore at our wedding.
    3. Hard drive/ computer since it has all of our pics on it.

I am pretty sentimental/ nostalgic about things that are passed down through generations but our families don't have any of that stuff so there is not much to save. I am hoping to start these traditions with my own stuff which is why I would grab the broach.

  • My crate of picture albums, my memory box from my two boys that had their going home from hospital clothes all the way up to their last report cards and my memory box my mother made for me growing up, to wich I've added cards and letters and silly things from my H and my time together. So I guess that's 4 things but they're all together, only problem is I would have to make two trips!

Haha so funny!  The last time we had family photos done, Katie L did them (I don't want to throw her whole name out on the Internets).  She's amazing!  I used to teach with D before he switched jobs.  What a small world!

  • Our wedding keepsake box

My cabbage patch kid (silly but I've had her since I was 2 months old and she represents my childhod, my grandparents, etc. So many memories with that doll.

A few pictures I have with lost loved ones - my nana, pa and aunt.

My jewelry box - it is where I keep my grandmother's wedding band.

I know, that's 4, but they are all so irreplaceable.

    1) the collage I made my hubby for his bday of pictures, cards, tickets of every movie and event we went to, and hotel keys ;) when we were dating.
    2) DH's black belt and his black belt certificate, he worked really hard for that and it's a huge part of his life.
    3) my jewelry box, my parents gave it to me when I was little one year for Xmas and it has all my nice jewelry in it that my dad and grandparents have given to me over the years.

My first name is Erin, and I used to work with her H when he worked at VHS.  She'll know who I am! :)

  • 1. My cell phone. It just seems practical as I would need that immediately in the case of a real emergency.

    2. My wedding dress

    3. The framed pictures in our house. I am counting that as just one thing since we don't have many pictures that we actually display in our home, but the ones we do are really important to us - a picture of my mother and I when I graduated college, a picture of my H's now deceased mother, a picture of H and I after I completed my first half marathon, my favorite wedding photo of hubby and I, a picture of my husband and my stepson and I at our wedding, and a picture of my H when he was enlisted in the Marine Corps.

  • Real life experience for me actually. I had a house fire in January. I grabbed my wedding ring, cell phone, hair tie (it was by my wedding ring), and a sweater and shoes. Oh and then I was stupid enough to go back in for my cats. Yeah, I'm that person. In retrospect honestly everything else didn't matter. I just wanted my DH and I out and our boys. I also now never take off my wedding ring at night because of this.

  • Three things?

I only really have one... My laptops. All our photos are split between two laptops. Everything else is in our house is 100% replaceable. We have very little that contains sentimental value for us.

  • This thread is making me really happy I back up most photos to an online location ASAP
  • I'd probably just grab my cell phone for practical purposes.  I'd maybe grab my kindles if I had time (but all my books are on the kindle cloud, so if I had to buy a new kindle, I wouldn't lose all my books).  H would probably grab all his camera gear and get his bikes out of the garage.

I don't really have much sentimental stuff in my house other than our pictures, which are all backed up online, so no need to grab hard drives.  Also, H and I both wear our wedding rings 24/7, so they'd already be with us.
  • This is kind of tough...
I would grab DH's grandpas ashes, my DS(1&2)'s blankies, and what little jewelry I have of my mothers.

I would of added my phone but its always* in my pocket or my bra so I doubt its going anywhere.
