So happy to announce that Elizabeth (Ellie) Claire was born on
Thanksgiving day at 4:39 pm. She weighed 5lbs 5 oz and was 18 inches
long.
Here is her (long) birth story!
I was induced on
Tuesday morning because I had IUGR (Intrauterine growth restriction) and
they felt Ellie would grow better on the outside - I was 39 weeks 2
days at this point. The induction took some time - we started cytotec
on Tuesday morning at 10 am to thin my cervix out and I was still 1 cm
dilated as of 4pm on Wednesday afternoon so they started me on another
cervix thinning medicine (cervadil) at that point.
I started to have
painful back labor at this point, but the contractions I was feeling on
my back were not showing up on the monitor. They checked me again at
3:30 am on Thursday morning and I was still 1 cm dilated with a "rock
hard" cervix. I am in serious pain at this point (throwing up, etc) and
they said I could get the epidural, even though I wasn't dilated much
and my contractions weren't showing up on the monitor as being very big.
I am starting to get pretty discouraged at this point because
I feel like this could go on forever (after the cervadil the plan was
to go to pitocin to bring on contractions). I am able to get some sleep
in from 4 am Thursday until 8 am Thursday morning, but shortly after I
wake up I notice the epidural has started to wear off on half of my body
and I can now feel shooting contraction like pain down my leg (but no
contraction pain in my uterus and the monitor is still not picking up
major contractions). I ask the nurse if they can check me again to see how far
along I am and do something so that the epidural works again and they
finally check me again at 3:45 pm.
The doctor said "you are
fully dilated" and I was beyond shocked, but I was extremely relieved!
For some reason the monitors weren't picking up my contractions, but I
went to a full 10 cm without anyone noticing. The doctor said "we are
going to start pushing soon" and the anesthesiologist came back to make
the epidural work on both sides of my body.
After 20 minutes of
pushing, out she came! As she was coming out the doctor told me to
"look down" and I watched as they pulled her out and she cried right
away - the most beautiful sound I have ever heard! She got an 8 at her 1
min apgar and 9 at her 5 min apgar. She is strong and healthy even
though she is on the smaller side. After we were back in the recovery
room my mom brought us Thanksgiving dinner and we enjoyed our first Thanksgiving as a family!
We took her home on Saturday and she has been doing great. She is wearing preemie clothing because she is small, but based on today's weight gain at the doctor, I don't think she will be in them for long.

1st Pregnancy: MC, 11/19/00.
2nd Pregnancy: DS born 04/10/06.
3rd Pregnancy: CP, 03/11.
4th Pregnancy: MMC, D&C 11/30/11, Genetic testing revealed Trisomy 4.
5th Pregnancy: Ectopic, 2 doses of Methotrexate unsuccessful, surgery 4/10/12, right tube removed.
Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN. After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.
August 16, 2013: BFP our first month of "not trying!" Still in shock. Beta #1 (14dpo): 183. Beta #2 (17dpo): 611. Ultrasound 8/30/13: baby measured 6 weeks, 1 day, heart rate of 118 bpm!
Ultrasound 9/13/13: 8 weeks, heart rate of 176!
Baby is due 4/26/14

RPL testing all normal, Karyotyping normal

IVF #1 April 2012 = BFN, IVF #2 June 2012 = BFP. U/S 7/23 = saw heartbeat but measuring behind. Follow up U/S on 7/30 - no heartbeat. D&C 8/2. Trisomy 12. IVF #3 Oct 2012 = Chemical Pregnancy
Phone consult with CCRM on 12/12/12 - ODWU 1/4/13 - both tubes clear(!) - AFC 24, AMH 3.2, FSH 9.6, LH 5.4, E2 25. DH has high frag rate but improved!
IVF #4 March 2013 CCRM. EP protocol w/ Menopur, Gonal-F & Dexamethasone. ER 3/29 & IMSI, PICSI. 43R 13M 10F 6blasts bio'd. CCS testing reveals 3 normals!!!
FET 5/31/13 of 1 4AA blast - thawed and expanded. 4dp5dt BFP.
Beta 9dp5dt = 181, 11dp5dt = 427. 1st u/s showed a healthy heartbeat! EDD 2/16/14
After 4 years of hoping and heartbreak, our sweet little bean was born on 2/19/14

Testicular Biopsy with TESE on 6/8/12. good sperm found! (left side only) froze sperm, failed thaw test
Orientation for IVF/ICSI on 6/13/12. Waiting for the green light following biopsy results...results show adequate sperm production both sides.
2nd SA 6/18/12: sample is "adequate for ICSI"
Plan: IVF/ICSI July 2012!
ER: 7/26/12. 15 eggs retrieved, all mature.
TESE/TESA/aspiration from epididymis, no motile sperm found
froze all eggs, the saga of praying for good sperm continues.
8/3/12: 2nd opinion from MFI uro on biopsy slides. Suspects "partial late maturation arrest."
Plan: more SAs, third biopsy/TESE with frozen back-up either from DH or DS.
SA 8/17/12: Zero sperm
SA 8/23/12: Zero sperm
9/26/12: SPERM FOUND! 15 eggs thawed, 12 survived and were ICSI'd, only 3 fertilized normally. Refrozen as embies and will thaw in Nov. Please survive and grow!
All 3 survived the thaw on 11/15/12!
FET 11/17/12: transferred 2, one 4B, one 4C. Beta 11/30:BFFN

IVF with ICSI in August 2013 brought us our babies. ER-9R, 7M, 4F w/ICSI ET of 2-Grade 2 blasts.
Dx shortened cervix, PTL, and preeclampsia during pregnancy. Lots of medications and 13 weeks of bedrest, babies were born healthy at 34w4d!
Me:34 PCOS, one kinked tube, low thyroid.
DH:39 lower than average count.
Married 2006. 3 failed IUIs and countless BFNs.

7/10 Retrieval: 16r, 14f w/ICSI. 7/15 ET: Transfered 2. 4 frosties.< Poas faint+ 4dp5dt.>

Me (34)- no issues found MH (36)- MFI due to Vericocele. Straight to IVF w/ICSI 9/12, Antagonist. 9R, 7M, 5F = BFN c/p, New RE for IVF #2- 1/13., Long Lupron. ER on 1/22 -10R, 9M, 9F. Transfer on hold due to overstimming. FET in Feb. 2 frozen blasts. Another BFN & another c/p. RPL testing all negative besides MTHFR gene, vericocle repair surgery 4/12/13-Bilateral Grade 3 Vericocele found & fixed, IVF #3 with PGS 4/13- 11R, 9M, 9F. Transferred 2 normal=BFN, 3 normal on ice. CCRM-here we come! ODWU-All test results normal. EPP in August. 21R, 20M, 19F. 12 blasts biopsied & frozen for CCS testing. Results showed 11 normal! FET Oct. 30. 2 5d 4AA blasts transferred. First ever BFP!!! Beta 1=216, Beta 2=870 1st U/S=It's TWINS!!! It's a BOY and a GIRL!! Everyone Welcome!!!
