Am I the only one who thinks Dutailier gliders are ugly???

If you own one, please tell me why you love it. It will ultimately come down to comfort and quality for me but I have not been drawn in by many of the models I've seen. I keep going back to the club-chair types... What have you gone with and why? THANK YOU!

  • I don't like the looks of it, but I found a great deal on one on Overstock dot com. It's wonderful, and it's in the baby room so it doesn't really bother me that the style isn't spot on. I really liked the upholstered chair rockers, but they took a lot of effort to rock and most of them aren't tall enough to lean my head back. My glider is so comfy, & I can rock for hours half asleep, which is exactly what I use it for. I'll wash the cushions & sell it as soon as we're past this stage. Very important tip: get the ottoman.

  • I need to start trying them all - I've avoided them because I'm being ridiculous. And I will definitely do an ottoman. Thanks!

I've been doing this same thing! What @Allibob said about the back being tall enough to rest your head is exactly the problem I've been finding with regular upholstered rockers, though. My husband is just all caught up in the idea of using it as a gaming chair after we don't need it for baby, so I have to keep vetoing the huge La-Z-Boy type recliners.

  • After I went and actually tested the comfort of gliders last pregnancy, I ended up with a small La-Z-Boy that we found on clearance. Soooo much more comfortable and worth it for me!

  • I didn't get a glider for the looks.  It really is functional.  Smaller footprint than an armchair type chair and super comfortable.  I don't plan to keep it as a permanent piece of furniture, but it's a great chair for rocking a baby.
This.  It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing chair, but it sure is comfy.  Ours reclines too and we still use it daily.

  • We were given a Dutailier-style glider by a family member and had it recovered for my son. It was NOT very comfortable. It was okay but not my fave. If I could go back I would buy a big armchair style rocker.

  • We have a Dutalier in the "Grand" model so it's really tall, reclines, with an ottoman and nothing can beat it for comfort. It is the most comfortable seat in the house.

    What is the best glider??
  • If you will be nursing, the more upright seat will be better for you than an armchair. I agree they aren't the cutest things ever made, but definitely functional.
  • We also have a. Grand one. We've had it over two years and it's the best baby purchase we have received. My DH and I have spent so many hours sleeping in it with our little ones.

  • Hi,

If you look on the Dutailier website www.dutailier.com they really have new contemporary upholstered gliders that are really beautiful , I have one and the gliding is really smooth and the chair is very comfortable.

  • They're not super cute, but it's more about being comfortable and functional instead of pretty. Personally, we're probably going with a recliner because it will get more use, and it will be more comfortable, but I'm not completely opposed to the Dutailier ones.

  • I think they're atrocious as well. And why are they so expensive?? We've decided to get a la-z-boy or some other recliner for the living room that we'll get much more use out of in future years. I don't want to be relegated to the nursery to rock and nurse every time baby needs to feed. I'd rather have to cover up from time to time than have to leave the room EVERY time. I guess I could put the dutailier rocker in the living room but I won't because I think it's so ugly

During the day I nursed while sitting on the couch in the family room. I nursed on the glider in the nursery only if we were already in there (bedtime, middle of the night, before/after nap). Just having a glider doesn't mean you have to sit there to nurse every single time.

This exactly.  You'll need something in the nursery to nurse/rock the baby at bedtime and middle of the night feedings, that is the purpose of ours.  I decided to go with this glider because it was the most comfortable one that matched DS's nursery (we got it almost 4 years ago, so I don't know what other options are out there now).  We've used it every day for the past 3.5 years (I still sit in it every night while I'm waiting for him to doze off) and will use it for baby #2.  I didn't go with an recliner/Lazy Boy, because that's not the look that suits the rest of the house (just as ppl think the gliders are ugly I feel the same about recliners) and we will use this for the nursery and then donate/give it away, it's not meant to be a permanent fixture in our home.
