NWMR: does anyone use pure coconut oil as beauty product

Seems like I'm seeing jars of coconut oil everywhere. I noticed a jar of it at sam's club (It's as popular as eating kale right now..lol). Is anyone using this stuff as a beauty product in their hair or on their skin. How are the results?

  • We use it in cooking and as a moisturizer. I use it on my hands in the winter and to massage the baby when her eczema flairs up. In India, it's commonly used for hair - you massage it into the scalp, leave it for half an hour, then wash it out. It's supposed to leave the hair shinny and healthy.

I like it for its versatility. It's nice to have around the house - adds a different flavor to dishes, low allergy risk for those with sensitive skin.

  • I've read it's a good option for cloth diapering too if LO gets a rash.  We don't use it because I can't stand coconut.

I forgot about this use - we used it with every diaper change when DD was in cloth diapers.

  • Yes, we use it instead of lotion for all of us after baths/showers.  I use it in my hair, as an eye make-up remover, also cook with it.  Love it.

  • We use it for lotion. Works wonders if your little one has eczema and diaper rash. I use it on both my and my daughter's hair.
  • Its great for African American hair, or anybody with dry or super curly hair. I love my coconut oil
  • I use it for cooking a lot (it's rated as one of the best oils to cook with). Pretty much anywhere that requires oil or butter (including in things like waffles, etc.).

But now I really want to do a hair mask with it!

  • Use it in hair, on skin, cooking. It's liquid gold besides breastmilk.
  • I've put it in my bath water (didn't need any lotion after), used it as a deep conditioner, and used it on my son's diaper rash. It's good stuff!
