Stuffy nose won't go away

FTM here! My son was 2 mo old yesterday. He was born 7 weeks early so I guess his adjusted age is only 1w4d. Anyway! He has had a stuffy nose the past 6 weeks and I can't get rid of it! I have tried saline drops like his ped said then tried sucking his nose and it clears up a tiny bit but not much. What else can I do for my little fella? Thanks!

Re: Stuffy nose won't go away

  • There is not much else.  I've been fighting this for a while too.  Just that time of year.  Run a cool mist humidifier at night.  Saline, saline, saline.....   There is an all natural vapor salve that you may can use at night on his chest to help him rest.  The more rest they get, the better their little bodies are at fighting things off.  Change the filters in your home often to keep down the dust etc...  Keep him hydrated, and have him checked if you think it's getting worse.  He will need to take an antibiotic if his ears are not clear etc...   I so wish there was more we could do.  I will be so glad when he knows how to "blow"....  get that stuff out!

    Hope he gets better soon

  • I just wanted to say I'm in the same boat - LO is 9 weeks and we've dealt with a stuffy nose since the beginning! We did move our humidifier closer to her last night which I think helped. Also I had mentioned before that olive oil on the nose and sinus cavities seems to help although I don't know why (not inside the nose!). So last night I actually rubbed a little on the soles of her feet and her chest as well as her nose. Not sure which of those two changes made a difference but it was better last night. I do use the saline drops and nose Frida which helps but within 30 minutes it sounds bad again, but at least a lot of gunk gets out!

What's weird is in the daytime when she sleeps in someone's lap, she breathes smoothly. We keep her at an incline when she's in her bassinet so I have no idea why someone's lap would make things better.
