Colic anybody?

So my LO has a horrible case of Colic that kicks in every night around 8-10pm and lasts anywhere from 3-5 hours of intense hard screaming/crying.  My pedi has told me that of course there is nothing that can be done except give gripe water and gas drops till his system works itself out eventually.  Those help some but his Colic spells are still so bad that its heartbreaking.  This Colic is making it so the whole house has sleepless nights, even poor LO cant settle down after his spells are over.  He just wants to be held and cuddled afterward because he is so overwhelmed from it.  Does anybody else have a problem with Colic?  If so, any tricks yall have found that give some extra relief?  Right now, bouncing, butt patting, and laying him tummy down across our legs or arm while patting his back provide some very short temporary relief but then nothing.

BTW he is given breastmilk, so im not sure how formula would do.

  • How is he napping in the day? Like where? How long per each nap?

  • My LO does the same thing nightly, usually from about 11-1, but it varies. Maybe it was because it was the first time I tried it, but Colic Calm worked wonders for us last night. It's another gripe water, but it's staining, so be careful. We also swaddle, which helps her sleep. Once we get her swaddled, I rock her and pat her bottom to make her feel better. It seems to be getting a little better. My pediatrician told me its gas, and we need to burp her better. He did say that gas drops and gripe water will provide temporary relief and are not harmful. If it helps her fall asleep, I'm all for it. Sometimes the bags under her eyes from the crying at so sad!

Have you talked to your pedi about reflux? Currently we are doing colic drops (infant probiotic), reflux meds and gas drops. And I'm cutting all dairy and soy from my diet. I'm taking an infant massage class on Friday and we are going to try a chiropractor too. Reflux and colic really sucks. Sorry you are also dealing with this.

For those who suggested swaddling and shushing etc, that works for regular upset babies, but colic and reflux are different. Swaddling a baby isn't going to make actual physical pain go away.
