Bare with me here :) so my step cousin who we don't even really speak and see eachother twice a year tops. Her sons name is Broden. In your opinions are they too close?

Funny story I ask my sister this question and she says who is Broden I'm like our stepdads nieces' son and she continues to ask who they are and then finally gets it. Lol so that's how close we are.

I appreciate any opinions :) happy Tuesday ladies

  • If they were going to be regular playmates, then maybe. But for someone you really see, it's not a big deal.

I think it's part of the shove a y where it doesn't belong fad.

ETA: Braden would be the "normal" spelling.

Current creative spelling doesn't seem to be limited to shoving the letter "y" in there...  It's kind of scary.

I joked with my mom before the last baby was born that it would be either Aydhenne or Madhyssenne.  So she called the baby "Aydhenisenne".

No dashes or apostrophes where they don't belong? I'm disappointed! :P

  • Never heard the name Broden, but i know a Braden. I also know a Grayden. i'm a fan or more traditional names, but these names seem to be the trend now.

i don't think you need to worry about your stepdad's neice's son's name conflicting with the one you pick, seems to be enough distance there!

  • There are a bunch of Braydens in my nephews class. So I'd say it might not have been a name 10 years ago, but it is now. And I don't think it's too similar to the distant family member
  • I know of a few Bradens. I don't think it's very strange. I really like it and as it's someone you don't see often I don't see a reason not to go with a name you like. Heck my sister has a cat named Oliver, but I'm still naming my boy that! (Not quite the same I know) :)

  • My cousins, who see each other all the time and their kids play together weekly, named their kids Jaxson and Braxton. Its a little close sometimes, but they work it out.

    This.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • Neither name is my style, but the step-cousin issue wouldn't prevent me from naming my child a similar name. Heck, my hubby wants to name our baby after the Beagle! (Chase) He's not going to get his way, though! ;)

  • If we have a boy were naming him Brayden. I've always loved that name and since we have a little tradition with B names, that one was my favorite for a boy.
  • Jayden/Cayden/Brayden/Ayden...

I'm sorry but +1 for no to all of the above. Those names were very trendy but are now on their way out. FWIW Brayden is #39 on Nameberry, but Jayden is still #7. I'm sure both will wane in the years to come...that may be a good thing or a bad thing to you. Personally I would not want something at the height of or the tale end of a name trend.

To try to be helpful & answer your actual question, no, I do not think they are too close for comfort.

  • Wdidn don't want a very popular name that everyone has is our take and why we shyed away from our choice or Liam and thanks for the input! I am not really sure why I haven't thought of other spellings i just kind of felt the y would help people to know to pronounce it better. I just saw it and thot hm that sounds cute.

I didn't know the y names were an annoyance to people I still like the name and maybe now we will just look at different spellings! Well c tho n ill worry about it if we happen to see a nub at the scan Friday. Honestly I hope for a girl bc we are dead set on our name there and wont have to stress about a boys name! Thanks again ladies.

  • My daughter is Bray, but it's also my maiden name, so not just made up. I've heard of quite a few Braydens though. Personally, I think it sounds ok, but made up. I always get asked about Bray's name, so I guess different can be good or bad.

    Is Broden even a name?

    same with Brayden.

I was keeping my mouth shut on that one because she didn't ask my opinion on her actual name choice, just if it was too close to Broden.  (Which I can NOT say in my head without a really thick surfer accent.)  But yeah I hate the "-aden" trend and adding the noise a donkey makes to it does not make it better.

Agree...As DH and I brainstorm names, our test for for more unusual ones is "is it too Aiden-y?" If yes, then neeeeext. Haha

  • I know someone who named her son Brayden, I like it. And there are a few "den" names that I like but I can't use them it rhymes with my last name. And that just sounds silly
  • Brayden is my DS's name!!! I love it and I couldn't be happier that we chose it! Go for it you won't regret it!
  • To be fair, Brayden is a name. And it isnt a made up new name of any kind, it has a meaning and a history. I pulled it out of a baby name book from the 80's that my mom gave me, and my son sports it pretty well. I think it's really rude to be hateful about someone's name choice. :/ If you love the name go for it, and don't let anyone bother you. My son is Brayden Christopher and I have gotten numerous compliments, it isn't a common name around here and everyone loves it.
  • Braeden Beau My sons name and it fits him perfectly!
