It's hard to sometimes. I know they know what's best medically. And we should trust them. But my husband and I found an infection in our sons hand. It had been missed by the nurses. Now I feel I need to be checking him over all the time.
I'm so sorry that happened to your son! Is there a head neonatologist you could speak to or a head nurse? Is it from his IV? I wonder if it's not uncommon. I would definitely speak to someone about it, though.
Speak up! My baby was desating for a couple of days and it took a huge fit of my part to point out to the hospital that the air mixer was not working correctly. They were really apologetic afterwards.
They are the professionals, but you also know your baby the best. You are the voice of your baby, and if you have any concerns, I definitely think you should share them with the neos especially regarding an infection.
When my LO was in the NICU I was standing right over the nurses everytime they did anything with my LO. I looked my daughter over every day multiple times a day. I noticed any and every change. It was/is my job to be her voice as it is for you. I can guarantee you that if that happened to my LO heads would be rolling. Goodluck on your NICU journey. It is a wild ride.
