Gift for nephew

I need help! My nephew is 12 months old for Christmas and I need to figure out what to get him! The problem is his birthday is also December 11 (I already got him a gift for this) so I'm sure he will already be getting a ton of stuff then too! I don't want to get him anything boring but am also on a budget only wanting to spend $20 to $30. I have no idea what to get! Help please!

    Did you get him a toy for his birthday? If yes maybe try a good pair of shoes ( I'm assuming he's almost at that level ) and will benefit from them sooner rather then later. His parents may also appreciate it because baby shoes can tend to get expensive. Or maybe something personal like a build a bear?

    Do they let him play with their phones or watch a show on an iPad? Fisher price makes covers for the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch that protects it but also comes with apps for games that are interactive. I actually asked for the iPad one because R is beyond fascinated with our phones and the iPad. This is what I asked for.

    If you got him a toy for his birthday then I would give him clothes for Xmas. He is too young to care what he gets and his parents would probably appreciate clothes.

    I'm thinking a lot of other people will be getting him clothes..like grandparents. Maybe a pop up book, or book that makes noises? Maybe blocks or trucks. Shoes sound like a good idea, or maybe socks.

    As PP said if you don't want to do toys since his b-day is so close to Christmas maybe sippy cups, books or even wooden blocks. I know my 17mo was starting to get into them at that age.
