When do you go to sleep?

I wake up every day feeling like I only got 2 hours when in actuality I have 6hours of (interupted) sleep!

How is this possible?  My bedtime average is 10:30p - wake at 5:30/6:00a
I have tried to get to bed earlier, but there is simply too much to do with 2 kids now. I would love to sleep in more, but DS's average wake time is 5:30/6:00a.

Does anyone else feel like they are not getting rest, but as soon as they have their cup o'joe everything is fine?

Re: When do you go to sleep?

  • Both LOs go to sleep around 730. It takes about 20 min of feeding and an additional 20 min of rocking and everyone is out. I go to bed around 830-9 and get a stretch till around 12-2 just depending. Then that takes about an hour, then he sleeps till about 4. Then again till 6-7ish. I get about 6-8 hrs of sleep a night and I'm actually ok with it. I feel very lucky with LO being a good sleeper, we just have to work on how long it takes to get him down at night.

  • Story of my life....
  • I've been going to sleep at 11 or 12, getting up at 4 to pump/feed, then up again at 7 or 8. DH has been taking the 2am feeding, which is why I'm sleeping. Baby is 6 days old... I struggled the first couple of nights before I decided EP was right for us.
  • Dd usually wants to rock and roll between 8-10 pm. So after that we both go down. Usually in in bed by 11, up from 2-3, then up from 5-6. Sometimes she'll go back to sleep then but not always. I try to nap for at least an hour during the day.

My mom comes over 1 or 2 times a week and I sleep during that 8-11 stretch and she minds the baby. I think Im probably getting about 6-7 hours a day, but only in 2 (maybe 3) hour stretches....I miss sleeping uninterrupted, although that hasn't happened since March with the peeing and all ;) but it was much easier to get up every 45 minutes for 2 minutes rather than this up for an hour business.

  • We consistently get about 3 2.5 hour stretches. Then we wake up, SO changes her diaper, I feed her, he burps her, then back to bed we go.

  • We are getting close to having a routine, but it is really hard w 2 kids when DH works so many evenings.

I try to put DD1 to bed around 7:30 and then I work in getting DD2 to sleep. If all goes well, I'm asleep by 8:30 or 9. Then up again for feedings at 10:30, 1, 3 and up for the day at 6.

  • I feel like a machine, like I never sleep.  In reality I probably get 4-5 hours a night between the two kids.  DD is almost 3 and she is starting to wake up in the middle of the night to pee which for potty training is wonderful, but then if the LO is up and DD gets up she wants to stay up too.

It's been a challenging few weeks in our house at night time !
  • We do a feed at 8, and usually I pump while DH does that. Usually DS is pretty sleepy/passed out after that feed so we all go to sleep, by about 9-9:30. DS wakes between 12 and 1:30, I do the diaper & feed and usually both of us are back to sleep within the hour. He sleeps until 4 or 5 and DH handles that feed so I can sleep. I guess I'm actually getting about 7 hours (most nights- we've certainly had nights that I got 2-3 hours total). Keep in mind I mostly pump, so that makes it easy for DH to help.
  • My H goes back to work tonight and I'm very nervous. With him home he's been getting up with DD1 and letting DD2 and me sleep in. He also has been doing bedtime with DD1. H works 3PM-1:30AM. So now I'm going to have to figure out a bedtime routine for two, and start getting up with the girls in the morning again. I am nervous. Thankfully DD2 usually goes 3ish hours between feedings at night. My plan is to get to bed right after we put DD1 down and try to get as much sleep as possible. We'll see how it actually goes. :-S

  • The baby has her long stretches of sleep (long = over 2 hours, usually no more than 2 and a half, sigh) between midnight and about 11am, so that's when she sleeps in her co-sleeper and when I sleep.  (I am lucky in that I'm self-employed, and so can set my own schedule.)

I try to also take at least one nap a day with her, but that's always a bit of a gamble, because sometimes her "naps" are only an hour or 45 minutes long, and that's not long enough for me to get actual sleep.

So I'm getting enough sleep if you add up the separate bits, but I look forward to the day when I can get more than two and a half hours uninterrupted sleep!
