WWYD? Fever?

I have a safety 1st thermometer. I took her temp tonight since I have had a cold the last few days. It said 38.1 and I know anything over 38 is considered a fever. However, I took it again right after 2 times and the readings were 36.3 and 36.4 which is normally what her temp is. So, would you consider her having a fever? Is there any reasons for a false reading or getting different readings each time? She is not showing any other symptoms. LO is 11 weeks and we take her temp rectally.

    Did you take it rectally?
Edit: just saw end of your post. I would personally keep an eye but don't over check. This happened at the doctors to me and lo was fine

  • When my daughter was 3 wks the same thing happened so I called the pedi and she said as long as she's acting normally, eating, and not lethargic she is ok. It turned out my thermometer sucked so I bought a new one the next day.

  • Li had a low fever this weekend. We checked bc DH and i both had a stomach virus and I had moderate fever (101.6). When we called the pedi, they said that it would only be a concern if he was showing symptoms of illness (changes in eating, lethargy, not himself, crying, etc.).
I think yours was an error, but even if it was accurate, if everything else seemed normal, i'd call, but i wouldn't worry.
I do prefer taking temperature under his arm, though, bc that's what they taught us in the nicu and it's less problematic to recheck and i can always confirm with a rectal temperature if needed. Just a thought :)
