What is going on?!?

So this past weekend LO has started screaming at bedtime. We can't figure out why or what to do. She's been sleep trained for some time (she's 8 months) but a couple of nights now she just screams when we try to put her to bed. She nurses fine and starts to doze, which is usual. But normally she'll just roll over and zonk out when I put her in the crib. Even if she does fuss, it's extremely short-lived. Her top teeth are coming in, but the one has already cut through the gum. She's happy the rest of the day and never really fussy, which makes this more confusing. I've tried rocking her to sleep, but she's up and crying again when I put her down.

Any thoughts? Sleep regression, maybe?

    I could have almost written this myself. DS will be 9 months this Saturday and last week were AWFUL! As soon as you'd open the door to his room, he would start fussing. Then once he got lowered into the crib he'd kirk out. He'd instantly roll over, sit up, and just cry. He's always been a dream at bedtime!!! He still isn't totally himself, but tonight was back to our normal.

    I have no idea what the deal is!?

    When DS does this, I just sit in his room in the dark and hold him while he sleeps for a bit. Sometimes they just bed some extra comfort

    Teething hurts more at night.  Same as when we are feeling sick, when you start to unwind and relax you notice the pain much more.  Also, teeth tend to come in 2's so if one top tooth has cut through then she may be working the other tooth out.

    There is also a wonder week in month 8, and all the other major developments that just throw sleep off.  Just do what you can to get through it.

    I'm going through this now with my 9 month old. He's teething too and has such a hard time at night. He goes to sleep fine but often wakes up at night super fussy. I'd say try giving your lo some Tylenol like 30 min before bed time and see if that helps.

    It took me a few night to put two and two together but tonight I have my lo some Tylenol before bed and he's already sleeping so much better!!! Good luck to you and I hope your lo feels better!

    I posted about this on my birth month board.  My dd was a great sleeper and would usually roll over like your Lo.  Then she out of nowhere started screaming and then standing up.  She feel asleep 2 nights in a row on her knees with her head resting on the crib railing.  I would rock her, do the "shhh" noise, pat her butt everything I could think of.  Eventually, I just started leaving her again.  She learned within a couple of nights to go to sleep.  I know some people are not into cio but it was the best thing for her.  She cried for a little bit and that was it.  She is now back to her usual self.  I killed me to leave her but it was the best thing.  She is back to sleeping 10-11 hrs a night.

    Thanks for the reassurance! She must just be hitting some developmental milestones. She sleeps just fine after she finally goes to sleep, but she is definitely fighting it. We'll just have to power through and do what we can to help her for now!

    DD has been doing this lately.  She'll be completely asleep (or seem to be) in my arms and I put her down in her crib and she sits up and starts screaming.  last night DH slept sitting up on the couch with her on his chest.  Her teeth have all broken through (4 at once - yay) so we think it's the stormy period per wonder weeks.  One night is good and then the next she's awake screaming half the night.  This too shall pass.  I hope.

    there is also a separation anxiety phase around 6.5 months and nightmares begin... fun times.

    My daughter who turned 8 mos last week is going through the same thing!! She sleeps 50 percent of the time sitting up hugging a bear and screams like a maniac when we lay her down for naps. I'm going to gather ears checked to make sure it's not an infection though she is also teething. Hopefully this passes soon!!
