Christmas Pregnancy Announcement

We plan on announcing our pregnancy on Christmas Eve to our families. They have all been asking for a baby for Christmas so it seems pretty fitting to do so but I need some ideas...I would like to make some sort of card or poster to wrap up in a big box that says something like "sorry but your present won't be here until July 2014" or "we have been working on your present but it won't be ready until July" and when you flip the card over there is a picture of the U/S or a picture of me and my husband from our recent vacation that says "First Family Picture". Does anyone have any creative sayings or ideas for this?

Re: Christmas Pregnancy Announcement

  • I think what you just said is plenty creative. I'd get a blank card put "Present under construction, ready July 2014" on the front and then glue the picture on the inside. Go get a big box (grocery or liquor stores tend to keep some around, or you can go to a Uhaul store and get a big moving box) and put the card in a small box and put it in the big box surrounded by packing peanuts and tissue paper. Wrap the big box and put a bow on it. Make the name tag out to whomever you're wanting to tell and tell them that you wanted to do a combination gift and that's why it's so big.

  • We are doing secret Santa and I drew my MIL. I'm going to give her the ultrasound picture in a frame with a cute little Christmas poem announcing the baby. Trying to keep it simple.

I like PPs idea with the boxes.
  • Love the idea - just as you worded it!  Also, you could always buy picture frames that say "I love Grandpa/Grandma" etc and put the US photo in.  :)

  • We wrapped a present up in Christmas paper, and wrote on it "Don't open until July 2014". Then we had Santa take a picture with the present. We have one with him smiling and one with a bewildered look on his face. We plan on giving our families the picture at Christmas to announce ours :)
  • Thank you all so much for the awesome ideas!! I really appreciate it. They are all really good, I am going to have a hard time deciding:)
  • Love your ideas! I made IL's a onsie that says I love G & G coming July 2014. I hope they're confused and then excited!!!

  • Oops. Go on the website etsy. They have cute ideas. One card said "we've been naughty" then you can put a pic of the ultrasound underneath. Depends on you're personality I suppose :)
  • We are going to give our family some Christmas cards.
    1. We've been naughty, baby G due July 2014.
    2. There goes those silent nights! Our little present is due to be unwrapped July 2014.
    3. The best gifts don't come from under the tree Merry Christmas from our soon to be family of three.
    4. 10 little fingers 10 little toes 2 little eyes 1 little nose. Put them together & what do you got? Our baby on the way ready or not!

We decided to do a few different designs for the different personalities in our family.
  • We're announcing on Christmas also! We're making onesies that are personalized for each of the grandparents-to-be! We got plain whites onesies and Iron-on Transfer paper and my husband is designing the images!
  • I saw that one on etsy and I thought it was hilarious!!
  • I like your ideas missykitty2 and the onesies. Those cards are really unique!
  • We told our parents with a baby frame that said congrats grandma and grandpa... my picture will arrive on or around July 6th, 2014 and a cute poem I found online called a letter from baby.

When I was googling ideas for announcements I also found one someone  who did it on  Christmas by framing the letters B A B Y and giving each letter to a different family member. When they opened it they were all confused until they put the letters together... I thought that was really cute but I couldn't wait that long!

    Good Luck!!

  • We got a big box and got one of those giant baby mylar balloons.  I taped the string to the bottom of the box and on the balloon wrote "... arriving in July!"  When they opened the box, the balloon popped out.

  • These are cute ideas. Except don't have someone open up a pregnancy test. I think that's kinda gross. Pics, and gift boxes, yes!
  • I'm 10w pregnant with our 1st child. I decided to tell each of our family members with special gifts.

The picture frame is for my mother with the date she became a mom & when she'll become a grandma.

The little xmas onesie is for my FIL, sonogram attached.

The cute wall hanging is for my MIL.

Lastly I came up with a real cute way to tell my sisters that their going to be Aunts.

I may have went a tad overboard, but it's our 1st & I like to make everyone feel special in sharing this moment with us.
  • Thanks so much everyone. You all have very cute ideas and they have helped a lot! I think we have narrowed it down. I will post pictures when we have everything complete. I am soooo excited!!
  • We're announcing at Christmas too! We're going to subtly hang a baby sock in the midst of the stockings, and then give the grandparents "refresher" sets of classic books. You know, Goodnight Moon, Hungry Caterpillar, etc. saying that they'll need to practice before June. Good luck with your announcement!
  • My husband and I took two pregnancy tests, and we ended up using wire to turn them into ornaments... (We cut off the ends and cleaned them!).  We are planning on  hanging one on each of our parents' Christmas trees and just see how long it takes them to notice :)
  • This is a really cute Announcement - to rap in a box or care!

I really like it we are announcing to our families at Christmas too and one side will get this with a picture of what I would like the nursery to look like FIL is a home builder. And for my side I am making shirts for my nephews that say We are going to be Big Cousins and let them run into the room!

  • All ideas above are so awesome! Very creative. Here are some more:

    How to announce your pregnancy

I really like the one that says, "The Best Parents Get Promoted To Grandparents"

Your parents and in laws would love it!

  • how about an ornament with something written on it like "baby (last name) 2014"

  • I like all the ideas mentioned previously. One idea we tossed around was going to get Santa pictures done with our two-year-old and have him holding a sign that says, "I asked for a baby brother or sister for Christmas" and Santa holding one that says, "And I said yes!" Alternately, if our kid flipped out about being in a stranger's lap, his sign would say, "Mama and Daddy asked for a new baby for Christmas."

But I don't have the time or energy for that, so we are just wrapping up a "Big Brother" shirt for Noah.

My last two pregnancies my family members were constantly asking me how far along I was and my mawmaw mentioned she wished she had a countdown type of thing to help her keep track. So this is what I made for most of my family members this year. It is a lot cuter in person. I've added a gold sharpie in each package to mark off the weeks with, and wrote instructions on the back to mark off the weeks on Fridays. I found these adorable DVD packages at walmart, so I wrapped each canvas in a ridiculous amount of tissue, taped it up, but it in the box and then glued the flap shut so they couldn't peak.
There are magnetic strips on the back to put up on the fridge, and I have little stands for the ones that will want to put it on the counter or their desks.

  • We have decided on a few different ways to announce to our families. My MIL collects magnets from all the places they visit but is running out of room for them so we bought her a new magnet board and I made the first magnet to go on it with the picture below. We also made Christmas cards to mail to everyone probably the day after Christmas with the same picture minus the text. They turned out super cute. They say the normal Christmas things with a "love, our names and then baby ERICKSON ". For my parents, it's been a long standing joke that my parents wedding picture (mom was 5 months along) was our first family picture. So I am framing a picture of us from our trip to Alaska and then I got scrapbook letters to spell out "first family picture" to put on the photo matte. I doubt it will take too long for them to figure it out lol. We are going to give the gifts in front of the whole family on each side so it should be quite exciting. I am going to try and video it. Thanks again for all the ideas.
