suggle baby

Good morning everyone!  How are you sleeping?  Where are you sleeping?  Where is LO sleeping?

LO is only 12 days old today and the sweetest baby in the world.  She almost NEVER cries and if she does its because I'm changing her diaper or clothes and it only last for a second or so.

My LO does LOVE to snuggle!  She only wants to and will only sleep on me or DH. it all started because she had a cold and was VERY stuffy so the doc said she should sleep at an incline.  I have been sleeping in my big chair in the living room.  We have tried a rock n play, co sleeper next to the bed, crib and pack n play.  She could be dead asleep on me but as soon as I put her down she is up.  Last night I tried for hours to get her to sleep when she wasn't held but it just didn't work.  I finally gave up and snuggled in for the night with her.

Anyone else have a snuggle baby?  Anyone try anything that worked to get them to sleep not on them?  I am not going to do the cry it out thing!  she is too little and I am not willing to do that.

Thanks for any help!

  • I am in the same situation as you. The moment we lay her down her eyes pop right open. Last night we tried the halo sleep sack with her arms out. It worked for us last night, I think it kept her extra warm and snug. I am hoping it will work again.

  • Same situation.. I'm hoping its temporary. I love the day time snuggles but only sleeping in 2 hour increments having him with me at night makes it even harder for me to fall asleep. Every move he makes wakes me up.
  • If it's starting to wear on your ability to sleep, my suggestion would be to put more safe layers on her.  She's likely sleeping so well because of all the warmth you're putting off!! :)

  • Is she swaddled? I personally can't sleep with LO in my room because of the grunting so he's been in his own room since day 1, crib or rnp.

  • I had this same problem. My mom suggested putting a heating pad in his bassinet before putting him in it and it worked like a charm. It's just the warmth they like. Hopefully one of these suggestions works for you. It's all trial and error I'm finding out with these little ones.
  • I agree to tally too young to cry it out. Maybe try getting LO to sleep and then putting in a rock and play or even the car seat so she's more snuggly feeling. I also second the swaddle. My DD usually sleepsin the crib at night but two nights last week she would only sleep if I held her. Not sure why, but thankfully it passed.

Also maybe try getting her to sleep by rocking and have her down on a pillow by your side as if you're nursing. At least you'll be moving in the right direction of not having her sleep upright. (Here's us right now in fact, I'm the grey shirt towards the bottom of the pic.)

  • I also have a snuggle baby he is 3
Weeks today. We have been sleeping in the living room together either on the couch or recliner. The longest amount of time I have had him sleep in the rnp was from 10:30 ate at 1:30 then down till 3:30. Since my dh works as a welder I want to make sure he has enough sleep at night so I don't want to be in our bedroom and have him wake up a bunch of times, even though i so miss our bed! I figure if we have to feed them every 2 hours this seems to be the easiest.

My guy is the same way!! I have found that swaddling really, really helps!
  • Aya has been the same way lately. She'll pass out on me for hours but as soon as I put her down she's wide awake no matter if it's in the PnP, bouncy chair or swing. I've started to swaddle at night and it seems to be helping.

  • I've found that swaddling really helped. Without it LO would wake up every time I put him down. With swaddling he's been sleeping in 4-5 hour stretches.

  • Swaddling doesn't seem to help my LO. I've been having this issue for the last 10 days or so. He's sleeping well in my arms but the minute I set him down he snaps awake. Now I rock him for nearly 10 minutes after he drifts off then place him in his swing or bassinet. I leave my hands under him for about 30 seconds and pat him a little once I lie him down. That worked for all of his wakings last night and so far today.
  • This was me. My LO would not sleep anywhere but on me or DH. But on Friday I decided to get out my sleep sack that swaddles (I had only been waiting because it was too big for him until now). And I swaddles him with his arms in and now he sleeps 3-4 hours straight in the pack n play at night.
  • Also, if he falls asleep in my arms and then I transfer him to the pack n play, I always keep my hand firmly on him for a good minute before I slowly remove it and walk away. Otherwise he will wake up.
  • Our LO is th same way. I tried nursing in bed last night and she nursed for 2 hours and it made DH very uncomfortable... So we went back to the recliner to sleep. When she gets a little bigger we can break the habit but for now, she just knows she needs her mom. I have noticed that if DH puts her down she will sleep better at night.
