Daycare Day 1

I know there are several of you who, like me, dropped off your LO to day are for the first time today. How did it go?

We had a nice morning that started at 4:30. LO nursed then I put him down for a little nap. I pumped for 10min the got ready from 5:15-6:00. I got all the bags in the car, including my coffee and lunch. I ate some breakfast and fed my cats. I did about half my makeup.

I woke up LO at 6:05 and nursed-changed-burped him and put him the car seat. We said goodbye to H and left! LO fell asleep on the way to daycare which is 25min away. There were a few first day hiccups-they confused LO for another baby at first so were setting up the wrong crib. I put all his stuff away and said goodbye with little fanfare. As I was doing paperwork, I peeked back into the room. Within 5 min of me leaving LO had a blowout and was getting changed! Haha. Nice work. He was crying which nearly killed me but by the time I was done with paperwork he was happy and looking around his new digs.

It was pretty scary and sad but I'm okay right now, sitting in my car finishing up with pumping. Motherhood! Phew!

  • I was alittle nervous opening this... fearing you had a disaster morning. So relieved to read your positive experience! Our first day is tomorrow... sounds like it will be similar to your start. Hope today continues to be smooth for you!

  • Thanks to you both! Good luck tomorrow @beatingIF. I am going to call daycare now just to check in, but I'm feeling okay!
  • Had our first day today as well. The morning was a little busy getting out the door, but tht was partially due to my dh hurting his back so I had to get both boys ready. And drop off was longer due to having multiple bags of things to take in. Figure each day will get easier as we get into a routine. Hope your day continues well.
  • We had our first day today too. It took a long time to get out the door and get her in the door at daycare, but drop off went fine. I cried in the car on the way to work because she was still sleeping when I left so I could only kiss her good bye. I was sad that she would wake up in a new place. Our daycare lady (also a family friend), sent me a picture of her playing after she wore up and taking a cat nap in the PnP. She also said she woke up shortly after, so hopefully she can get her to sleep longer later today. I'm feeling better after getting the pictures, but this morning was tough!

  • First day here as well.  I nursed him at 3:45 and started getting myself ready at 5:30.  We got DS1 up at 6:50 to start eating breakfast and I got E up at 7:00 to nurse him again. Ended up having to change clothes because he peed all over me. We were out the door at 7:32 and to daycare by 7:35 (it's a mile from our house).  We were the first ones there so I got to go over everything with her.  I was ok until I was saying goodbye and then I burst into tears.  I stopped crying before making it to work and have been pretty busy today so it's taking my mind off of missing them so much.  Less than an hour before I leave and get to go pick them up - I can't wait to get out of here!

Sounds like it went pretty well.

I held it together until a woman who was walking out at the same time as me said "Is it your first day? Your first kid? Oh gosh, that's so hard." Having to talk about it pushed me over the edge!
I stopped crying when I had to figure out pumping in the car. Oh man, that is a hilarious tricky task.

How cute! I want pictures! I think I'll make that request.
