Napping at work...

I work out of a home office in my boss's guesthouse. He works out of the main house. Aside from being buzzed on the intercom from time to time, and the occasional meeting at the main house, wer rarely interact. I've been feeling so drained the past three days. Like there must be some serious growing happening to baby right now, because I am completely wiped out!! Is it out of line to ask boss if I can take a nap?? They know I'm pregnant. I'm a salaried employee, and I work through my lunch breaks every day.

What about you guys? Anyone napping at work? I'm so desperate for rest I'm afraid I will fall asleep driving home this evening.

Re: Napping at work...

  • I'm a teacher. No way can I. I have been exhausted at work. Hardly keeping my eyes open. On top of it have an hour drive home. It stinks. I make sure to get to bed early. 8 pm every night.

    It is slowly getting better. I'm 11 w 4 d now.

  • It depends on the relationship you have with your boss.  If you feel uncomfortable asking if you can nap in the guest house, I think it's totally reasonable to nap in your car on your break, just remember to set an alarm!  Is there a bed or couch in the guest house you are hoping to use? Maybe phrase it as "Is it ok if I close my eyes over there for a few on my break?" That would give him the chance to give you the OK to nap whenever you need to if he wants to.

  • Why don't you take a lunch break and take a nap then? I've had to do that some with this pregnancy b/c the fatigue has been crazy.

  • I actually fell asleep on accident one day. I work in a small area at a furniture and flooring store. It was a saturday and there was only me and one other girl and the homecoming local college game was right in the middle of the day. We only had a few customers that day and my coworker had been out on the floor with one for about 45 minutes. I guess I fel asleep for about half an hr till the phone rang haha. She walked in the office at one point but didn't wwake me up because she knew how tired I was. We are all really close there like family and my manager actually thought it was funny and they are all so excited for us anyways. They don't mind If I take small naps as long as we aren't busy but I would never do that if I didn't have a close relationship to my boss and coworkers. It really just depends on what kind of relationship you have with people at work.

  • I take my lunch breaks and nap! It helps a lot!
  • I nap on my lunch break when I need to Andy boss has seen me. It's ur time to do what you want with, but I understand your hesitation.
  • I nap almost every day. I'm salary, but we time in and out. I just make sure I'm timed out. I also hide in my closet (I know this is weird, but its big and I don't have to worry about people walking in on me!)

I am exhausted my 2:00 every day. This pregnancy is killing me.
  • Take your lunch hour, and just tell him that you know you haven't always been good about taking lunches in the past, but moving forward you will be taking lunch from X to Y amount of time.

I take an hour lunch every day and go nap in one of our meeting rooms. It's sadly the highlight of my day :)

  • I think lunchtime naps sound like a good idea. I nap frequently during the day, but I'm self-employed and often working from home. I would be WAY less functional if I didn't have that option.
