DH and I are taking DS this week to cut our Christmas tree! I'm so excited because we've never done this before. We have always bought from a lot. :)

So, what tree brightens your hearts and living rooms this time of year?

We have a fake tree because we are both allergic. Growing up we always cut our own down. So now I have to live vicariously through my parents and siblings and go with them to cut their tree down.

I am a special snowflake...we bought our live Christmas tree off Groupon. It gets delivered to our front door on Tuesday!!!! We did this two years ago, too. Last year we put up a fake one because we weren't spending Christmas at home.

  • Fake trees, FTW!

Honestly, if we didn't have kids or weren't hosting Christmas, I probably wouldn't bother with a tree at all. I know... Probably should have saved it for FFFC. :-P

  • We totally use a fake tree, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  We both have allergies, so real trees are a bit bothersome for us.  And I'm just not interested in a real tree at ALL (I know, I know).  I love our fake tree, though. It's a more realistic looking one.

  • Growing up, my husband had a spiders nest, squirrel nest and preying mantis nest in real trees all different years. So no thanks. I also think real trees are always short and dumpy looking... We <3 our fake tree.
  • I'm a part of the fake tree camp. It's just easier for us.
  • I never grew up with a real tree, we always had fake trees. So did DH. So we bought a fake tree last year for our first Christmas together. I like it. I think the tradition of cutting down a tree is nice though.

  • We are going tomorrow to get a real one. We go to a farm and try to find a good one to cut down. Last year we went the second weekend in Dec, and it was really picked over so we bought one from their lot. This year we are hoping to get a good one!

  • This was our 1st time picking out our own Christmas tree from a tree farm.  The best part was that someone else cut it for us.  DH and I went with my nice, nephew and my brother.  It was a lot of fun and full of great memories.  We had  such a great time  that we will be doing it again next year.

Yeah! DH and I did it on our own without any treatments or procedures. We are excited about our miracle baby.
  • I bought potted trees to plant for the past 2 years. I also killed 2 trees with my black thumb. So, not doing that again this year.

  • We keep it real.  It's a tradition that every year we trek down to a tree lot and the whole family has input on picking the tree.  It's fun, plus the house smells amazing.

We went to a tree farm last year and cut down our own tree. This year we decided we're going to stick to the lot trees from now on or for as long as we live down here since the selection they had at the tree farm weren't really the type of Christmas trees we wanted. They had leyland cypress which are pretty, but it was a pain to find a tree stand that worked (super small tree trunk) and it was difficult to get ornaments hung on it (due to the branches and leaves/needles) Seems to be the norm for tree farms down here.

Lol at black thumb. I think I have that too. Thank god I'm better at keeping children alive than plants.

  • Oh my gosh, this was one of the biggest fights DH and I had our first year of marriage. In retrospect, we both blew it way out of proportion. His family has always had the tradition of going and picking out a real tree, and self-acknowledged looked down on artificial trees as "artificial Christmas." Whereas I grew up with the same artificial tree for 15+ years, and that was my family's tradition. I didn't think I missed out on Christmas because of having a fake tree.

Anyway, for sake of money (not having enough at the time to buy an artificial tree) we've gone with a real tree the past three years. I think I've potentially talked DH into an artificial tree for this or next year, if we can find one that's nice and full and looks real. He understands that a real tree is high maintenance to us, for our schedules, and with the nightmare of trying to dispose of it last year...he might be up for it.

To each their own, of course. I think it's just nice to enjoy whatever holiday traditions you have.
    :)

  • I've never had a real tree. I really like my fake pre lit one!
  • This is my second year to have a fake tree. I finally takes my husband into buying a fake one with lights already on it last year.

We've both always had real trees. He got his from a lot and I alternated a lot or cutting one down from a tree farm.
    Fucking bump!!!!

We buy a real tree from home depot LOL. I didn't see this option in the poll. Probably because it is really un-romantic. We recently moved further out into the 'burbs so DH suggested we actually find a tree farm this year. I'll let you know how that goes lol.

Edited: I guess I couldn't chosen a "Christmas Tree Lot"

  • Growing up we always cut down our own tree. The kind where you have to take a four wheeler around just to get to all of the trees. It was such an amazing tradition! The last few years DH and I have used a fake and pre-lit tree bc we have not been home for most of December. Hopefully, next year we can revert back to real trees! Even though they can be more of a hassle with watering, and the needles falling, etc. I love the way the house smells with a real tree.
