Lets see...  not much news to report here.  We are still in "whats next" limbo... as we have stopped seeing the OB, and are waiting for our appointment next Wednesday.

We told my parents over Thanksgiving about our struggles, and although I was nervous about it (my parents have a propensity for judgement whenever they think I am not managing money to their standards...), it went really well.  My Mom was very understanding, and my Dad (who was mostly uncomfortable about the number of times uteruses were mentioned) was very supportive.  My family mostly deals with emotional struggles with comedy, so of course there were obligatory jokes about just going to a bar to get pregnant, and at one point my Mom even offered up my sister as a surrogate (then my sister's boyfriend tried to broker a deal, saying although we get a family discount, her womb wasn't going to be free.. ;) )

But the best part was when we left my parents house on Saturday...  First you must understand we are a family who love holiday traditions... we have been eating the same Christmas brunch for all 30 years of my life, and I am still required to come home to decorate the tree, so we can hear the story of my Grandpa's first ornament.  One of our longest running Thanksgiving traditions is the epic wishbone battle.  My sister and I have always broken the wishbone together, and her pre-Thanksgiving Facebook post was even about how she though the wishbone odds were in her favor this year.  When we were getting ready to leave, the wishbone was on the counter, and I asked my sister if she was ready to break it...  My Dad then told me, that there wasn't going to be a wishbone battle this year.  A and I were supposed to take it home, because obviously A and I have the same wish, so no matter who got the bigger side our wish would definitely come true...  Such a sweet gesture...  and I will take any good luck we can get.

QOTD:  Right now I am really big into Blueberry vodka... I like to add a bit of sprite, and cranberry or pomegranate juice.... Although I am not a big drinker, I like a cocktail everyone in a while!  Of course I also enjoy cold beer during sporting events, and wine with fancy dinners.

Baby Hayden Frances born 12/20/14 at 11:11 a.m...  Our perfect little miracle.  Here's how we got here:

  • @doodah1013 - your wishbone story is so sweet :) it's wonderful to hear stories of support as we go through this journey.  It feels good when our families are on our sides.

As for me... I'm careening around the corner and slowly... slowly... concluding my 2WW.  I tested this morning at 9 DPO.  Positive.  BUT - I am not excited because I took a trigger shot 10 days ago.  It very well could still be in my system.  I'm mildly - mildly - optimistic, though, because last time I tested out the trigger I was definitely negative by 10 days after so... I'll test again tomorrow and every day after until I reach Saturday when I can take the lovely FRER.  If that's negative, then I stop the progesterone, kick off my shoes, and relax through the holidays and start fresh in January.

If it's positive... it will be a very merry Christmas :) I hope, hope, hope that's what happens!!!  Nothing would make me happier than to give the ugly teddy bear holding a watering can I found at the thrift shop to my mom that reads "Grandmas Sprinkle Love."  C is going to give her mom a frightening baby doll to announce it.  Please let it happen this month!!!!!

GTKY: Favorite holiday beverage: eggnog with a good splash of bourbon.  I drink it ONLY during the holiday season.  Favorite alcoholic beverage in general: I'm a beer and wine kinda gal... So if you offer me either, I will be very happy.  I love Belgian beers, and red wine is my favorite.  Preferably a cabernet.  Pinot noir is good, too.

  • I am CD 10 and taking Clomid again this month.  I just called my RE to schedule my mid cycle appointment to check my follies this month.  I hope I am growing them big!

We are still leaning towards doing an IUI this month in the RE office instead of an ICI at home.  Our RE just explained we need to bring in the "goods" and they will do the IUI.  I am still not convinced the timing is going to work out, I basically have two jobs right now, we are trying to coordinate with my wife's work schedule and our KD.  It should be interesting.

QOTD: I am a vodka girl.  I loved flavored vodka with lots of different mixers.  I don't drink it often (but I used too) and rarely keep it in the house.  But if given the choice of alcohol I will almost always choose vodka.  Around the holidays it is common to partake in wine when with my family, it is a necessity.

  • Omg tomorrow is the end of 2ww number 7. Really don't have a clue if it worked or not. We both have tried to talk like it did...because willing it to be is half the battle. We might not Poas for a few days because of fear of disappointment, but I'm feeling rather optimistic about this go around. It would be the best Christmas gift!!! Not to mention baby due date would be right around my bday! What an awesome way to turn 30?!?!

Trying to keep myself grounded in case of bad news though too. :/. Not allowed to have any of that.

Will let you all know once we know. FX!!!

    10 medicated IUI's (3 with injectables).
IUI #1 (medicated) Jan. 2013-BFP!!!!- Beta's didn't double, MTX shot for possible ectopic.
    8 IUI's between April 13-April 14 = BFN
IUI #10 and final before IVF, injectables May 2014- BFP!!!!  TWINS!!!!

7 week ultrasound showed 2 wonderful heartbeats!
8 weeks to the ER with vaginal bleeding while on vacations!  Diagnosed SubChorionic Hemorrhage.  Babies are both great.
9 week ultrasound showed both babies are still great.
  • Our check-in is pretty thoroughly documented in the "cancelled" thread. This weekend sucked. Trying to start the week off on a better foot
The good thing from the weekend was that we went to see catching fire. Sooo good. I think I was a wee bit emotional because I actually sobbed at one particularly sad part. Usually I just get teary in the movies but this was actual full out sobbing.

QOTW: hard cider over ice. Vodka based drinks (tonic, sprite, crystal lite, etc) and wine. Although if I were going decadent, I'd get one of those huge frozen mudslides with ice cream in it.

  • @Flygirl1228 - Hope all goes well tomorrow!

@AandStilltrying & @wishiwaspreggo- FX this is it for both of you!

@doodah1013 - Thank you for sharing that story with us. I'm glad all went well and that your family is being so supportive.

@Trisholio - I hope the scheduling works if you do decide to go with the IUI. I also hope you have some beautiful follies!

We have my post op visit on Wednesday. We will also have our injectable consultation/teaching as well. Then we just wait for my period in January to start again. I'm excited to be using stronger meds and am hopeful for a BFP in the new year :)

QOTW: Lately I have been enjoying wine. It must be very sweet though. We live a few hours from the Finger Lakes in NY, and I enjoy a few from that area. Barefoot Perfectly Pink is my current favorite. I also enjoy Redneck Red (which is fitting for where we live). Purple Pause from Eagle Crest Vineyards is also a great choice.

When I'm not in the mood for wine, I enjoy a concoction called a Juice Box. It is half draft beer, a shot of amaretto, a shot of triple sec and then orange juice. You can barely taste the beer, which is good because I am not a beer drinker at all. It sounds like an odd combo, but it is tasty!

  • Last Tuesday Smurf and I went to the hospital for my post-op. First we met with my FS's resident and she went over my results; confirmed that my tubes are not blocked, that the endometriosis they found was removed, as was the surprise septum. Then my regular doctor came in and we discussed next steps.

So, we've finally been "enrolled" in the donor program. We will meet with our case manager for the first time on January 8th. We have another appointment on January 24th, where I have to go for an ultrasound. Eventually we'll set up an appointment with the sperm broker to choose a donor.

Because of my PCOS and lack of a natural cycle, I take Seasonale (a BCP). I have to stop taking it for 3-6 months to make sure all of its hormones are out of my body, then I will start on Femara(sp?) and likely Metformin. I kind of freaked out over not getting to take my BCP for that long... it means I will be bleeding the ENTIRE TIME because my body hates me. But I will do anything it takes for us to have a baby... even if it means I am a bleeding, cramping, hormonal mess. I just hate how SLOW this process is.

QOTW: I love Gin, specifically Bombay Sapphire. Also, I do enjoy a splash of Baileys in my coffee. :)

Jun 24/13: referral to Fertility Clinic ordered by gyne

Aug 15/13: initial consult with FS at Victoria Hospital Fertility Clinic, BW & HSG ordered

Aug 20/13: HSG shows one tube completely blocked, other tube slow to fill

Sep 18/13: FU w/FS re: HSG & BW. BW normal, laser laparoscopy & hysteroscopy ordered

Oct 11/13: Hysteroscopy, laser laparoscopy, & HSG determined I actually have a uterine septum and mild endometriosis, and that my tubes were never blocked! Septum and endo removed with laser during surgery. Post-op in 6 wks.

Nov 26/13: Post-op - fully healed with no complications; confirmed tubes are clear and septum and endo removed. Referred to Donor Insemination program.

  • Hi friends

@doodah1013, that is a great story, and I'm so glad that you have support

@trisholio Fingers crossed for you this cycle

@healz413, I'm so sorry you were cancelled :(

As for me, I had my acupuncture appointment today and had a very long discussion about our ttc journey. Due to the fact that I am currently on antibiotics (managed to get infected sweat glands last week....painful and NOT fun), plus I will be getting my CD 3 bloodwork and the sonohysterogram this cycle (more antibiotics for that), we decided that this upcoming cycle will not be a good cycle to try. Our acupuncturist wants one more month for intense treatment with chinese herbs that are not okay for use while pregnant. She saw my temp chart for this current cycle and sees that there is an imbalance between my heart and liver (what ever that means) and she would really like to work on that. She would also like to see me continue to really cut out sugar and continue to lose weight.

So, it looks as though we will be getting all of the bloodwork and testing done this cycle, but will not begin clomid and do any inseminations until January. We're okay with this because frankly, I want to be as healthy as possible before getting pregnant.

So, that's that. I am going to use this month to get all of the testing and then spend some time with my bff in Ohio.

QOTD: I'm not a drinker, but when I do, I love Rum Chata

TTC our first. Married to, and madly in love with, my beautiful wife. Living with our fur baby and enjoying 19 nieces and nephews.

@lamaitresse - What a painstaking process you are going through! I'm sorry it has to be so long for you.

@Goalieswife123 - I'm glad you were able to figure out what was going on with that bump. I hope you can get everything in line and ready for another try. FX your bloodwork comes back to be good and that everything goes well for your sonohysterogram.

We are officially in the fertile window as of Wednesday! We are lucky to have the means (aka local known donor) to inseminate multiple times this week. FF indicates I will o on Friday and all signs thus far indicate that might be true! I get a little over excited when my body gets on schedule because I've worked so long and hard to lessen my pcos symptoms as much as possible. Hoping I'm one of those lucky gals that is able to regulate with weight loss, diet, and exercise. Organic food, metformin, and 90 pounds lighter and so far I've had three "regular" months! Trying to stay realistic while also enjoying the excitement! Qotw: I love beer. Craft beer. Cheap beer. Dark beer. Light beer. Beer samplers....oh yeah. However, I've given up gluten so wine is my current beverage of choice!

  • we are currently at CD 6 and go in for monitoring US on Friday (CD 9), and then probably again on Monday or Tuesday (CD 12 or 13). Assuming it looks like I will O from the left side again (right tube is blocked) we will most likely attempt an at home ICI this time. We bought ICI vials from NW in order to be able to do ICI at home if we choose, but with the intention of trying IUI first. Well for our first cycle (last month) the counts were really bad for 1 vial once it was thawed and washed so they had to use 2 vials, and even then the counts were sub-par.

So, our thinking is that if we try an ICI cycle at home (after doing in office monitoring), we may have better luck in terms of the sample numbers.

It really sucks because we thought we'd found the perfect donor and as a result, we bought quite a few of his vials. So, we may find ourselves in the position of having to make a decision to switch donors and go into even more debt to try to get pregnant. IVF is not an option for me because of the drugs and risk of clotting and such. So, if I don't get pregnant naturally, then we will have to move on to my wife, which makes me sad since I have never wanted anything more than I want to experience a healthy pregnancy and childbirth. For me, it's not just about the end result of becoming a parent, but experiencing the entire process.

*Sigh* I'm kind of over the whole TTC process already, and we've really only just begun. Maybe I'm just in a funky place today...

QOTD: I'm not a big drinker, but I do enjoy an occasional glass of moscato. If I'm drinking something other than that, then I generally prefer fruity and sweet. I do really like the Skinny Girl Mojito mixed with a little lemonade or other tropical fruit juice.

I think the only thing to do is to put it in perspective.... No matter how hard a TWW is, it will come and eventually go. We try to concentrate on other things besides the wait... Although it seems impossible. We also have a safe word when we are talking about it too much! I actually enjoy the TWW more than waiting for an IUI, because there is always hope... And a little bit of hope can go a long way in this process. Good luck to you and can't wait to hear as your story continues to unfold!

  • I went to lunch with a coworker today and was discussing our TTC process.  After I explained the general timeline, she asked how soon after the IUI we knew whether or not it worked.  She thought maybe it was the next day....I wish!  I told her it was about two weeks and she said she couldn't imagine waiting that long.  It can seem like a very long two weeks.  Staying busy can help the time pass, but I find that no matter what I do, whether or not I'm pregnant is always in the back of my mind.

  • We're going in on Monday (CD9) for ultrasound to check out DW's follicles to determine which day we have to do the trigger at home, then its showtime! I know its just our first time and we need to be patient and its likely to take several tries, but we're really excited to get the ball rolling because we've been preparing for this first try for months!

  • Thanks, @StacyLH24. It really is disheartening at how slowly this is going but apparently this is the norm for our clinic, based on reviews I have read. On the whole, I am really happy with our FS -- he is actually the head of gynecology for our health region. He is also amazing at getting Smurf to relax, and anyone who can do that is a miracle worker in my books! LOL

  • Oooh!  That ONE nurse thing is a nice touch!   There are very few nurses at our clinic I like (I can name them - I believe it's 4 out of the 10 or so that work there)

Are they doing all the other hormone and antibody tests?  And are they going to run an AMH?  (not all clinics do that).   Did you guys have them test you both?

Good luck!  Hope it all comes out clean!  The waves of referrals and followups we had from our first tests were intense, hopefully you guys won't have to do that!
