Tips for cold weather

I know this is crazy, but I leave for Boston friday and am nervous about the cold and LO.

Any tips from you ladies for highs in the 30s? I want to make sure he's warm enough but doesn't over heat. I have a snowsuit and lots of sweaters as well as a hat and mittens.

Eta because I can't type.

  • I'm in Canada and know cold. We have -30 right now. I have a fleece suit for her to wear and tuck a blanket over top and then a couple reviving blankets around her face. I put a toque on her and keep her carseat covered with a blanket. Then when we make it to the truck I pull everything down so she doesn't get to warm.

They aren't newborns anymore so I don't worry as much as I normally would plus I am super quick with getting her in and out.

  • First of all, good choice on coming to MA.  We like it here.  :-)

Are you driving?  If so, your biggest problem might not be keeping him warm enough but to layer him so that he doesn't overheat in the car.  I was over-bundling M when it started to get cold and quickly realized that he's not outside for long and that he was overdressed and hot the majority of the time.  Now I rely on layers (long sleeved onesie, sometimes under a short sleeved shirt or onesie, sweatshirt), a hat and two blankets for the car.  He can take the hat and blankets off as needed.

If you'll be riding around on the T, it's a different story and probably more challenging.  The temperature variances will be much crazier.  I always found it challenging to dress myself for riding on the T for very long as you'll either be broiling or freezing depending on where you are.

  • Lots of thin layers are best, plus a hat, mittens, and blanket.  I'm guessing you'll be walking outside quite a bit...if you're sightseeing.  Does your stroller have a weather shield?  I have the below for my stroller and have been using it for our daily walks.  It's great because it keeps the wind off of DD and it warms up a bit in there.

Have fun in Boston!  It's one of my favorite cities to visit.

Yeah it's cold... I am already cold even thinking about having to go outside to shovel snow.

  • Snowsuit, hat, mittens, two blankets. One covers her legs and arms and the other is draped over the car seat. When we get in the car I take the blanket over the car seat off. We only go out if we have to.

  • Thanks ladies

@krwact - we will be driving. No riding on the T. I definitely think layers will be key.

@strawny0807 - thanks! This is actually a trip to see family. We won't be doing much sight seeing which is a bummer.

@ jeremiahz_momma03 - I'm thinking that we will also only go out when needed.

@beckyschell - sending you lots of wishes for a warm up!
