Going back to work

I'm going back to work today. My son is 6 weeks 1 day. Time has just flown by!! I really wish I could have taken a longer leave but I didn't get paid and so financially it didn't work out. I am really going to miss my little guy while at work! I haven't been away from him yet! I am, however, lucky to be able to return only 3 days a week and have my mom and MIL watch him when I'm at work. Wish me and my sleep deprived self luck!

What are your returning to work/not retuning to work and daycare situations like? How long are you taking for leave/how much do you have left?

Re: Going back to work

  • I'm Active Duty (for the next few months only, yeah!) so I go back when LO is 6w4d 3 days before Christmas and I'm on call that night --- yeah, I do the call schedule, way to screw myself.  DH is home most of the time and we have a sitter that comes to the house a bit 4d/week.

    3 days/week sounds perfect!

  • I go back January 2nd and Gavin will almost be eight weeks. I have the standard six weeks and took an additional two weeks. We saved enough for that, but focused more on getting rid of existing debt so we could afford the daycare *sigh*. I'm not really sure I am cut out to be a SAHM and I make too much to stay at home but don't make enough to make the hurt of daycare costs go away. Go figure. Just praying that by the time I go back to work he sleeps more during nights.

  • I am a STM and will be going back to work on Dec. 17th.  Luke will be 6 weeks and 2 days old.  I am not worried about leaving him at daycare as I love our daycare and the ladies there are really like family.  What I am worried about is if I will be able to focus on my job with the sleep deprivation and taking care of two little ones now.

I love my job and am successful, but I am stressing that I won't be able to handle it all this time around.
  • I go back to work Jan 21. LO will be 11 weeks old. I took 12 weeks, but the first week was before she was born. That was really nice to spend extra time w DD1 before the baby came.

I will be doing 2 hours of work from home a day for the last 4 weeks of my leave which will help me ease into it.

DH and I work opposite shifts and he will be home w the girls while I'm at work. Hopefully he will be ready for it.

  • I can take until March 24th off, she'll be just over 18 weeks at that point. I only get paid for the first 6 weeks though so I'm not sure how long I'll end up taking.

I'm having a hard time with the thought of going back to work this time. I was OK with it after DD1 but I'm already sad that I won't get to stay home with my baby. Thankfully my mom watches my kids (and my nieces), so they will at least be with Grandma and their cousins.

Good luck today! I hope your day goes by quickly and is easier than you thought it'd be.

  • I used to run a daycare, but I'm not taking the kids back.  I phased them all out in late August, so I haven't really been watching anyone (except for a few odd jobs here and there) since August.
We are planning to move over an hour away in May of next year, so DH and I decided it wouldn't be fair of me to take on new clients just to make their parents scramble for new care in a few months.  And, the place we're moving is really unpopulated, so it's not likely that anyone will be looking for childcare there either.
    I have become a full-time SAHM.

  • I had originally planned to take 12 weeks ML, which put me returning to work (teaching) February 3. However, with LO arriving early and on the advice of his Pedi and Neonatologist I won't be returning until April 1. This puts me at a 6 month leave. I'm so blessed to have had coworkers donate sick days to me to help out, but eventually I will go into unpaid status. Trying not to stress about sub plans and missing work but it is hard. I love LO to pieces, but I miss work (I've been out f

Good luck OP! Hopefully the day will fly by for you and each day it will get easier to leave your LO!
  • I'm taking 7 weeks. I will return back to work on January 6th. I really don't want to go back, but I am the bread winner of the house so I have to go back. When I go back to work SO will be home with her until 2 then she will go to a sitters until I can pick her up at 4. I'm just happy SO gets to stay at home with her during the day. If we had to pay full daycare costs, it would make more sense for him to be a SAHD.

  • I go back jan 6 but only need daycare for ten weeks during my student teaching assignment . Dd will be just over 8 weeks. I'm using a home daycare that one of my friends has used for a year for their infant. Hopefully I can find a nanny job where I can bring DD when student teaching ends in March.

  • I'm supposed to go back to work on 12/23. I had 6 weeks but took a week before LO arrived. So he'll be almost 5 weeks. Normally we have short work weeks for Christmas and New Year's though so I'll end up with two really short weeks. My mom doesn't work during the Winter so she'll watch LO until April or May. At this point I'm not sure what we'll do with him then.
