Gettin' in Shape

Starting a fitness routine tomorrow now that I'm settled into my new job and whatnot and am hoping that I can stick to it so I can get in shape >.<

Any tips, suggestions, bitching you want to share? lol

  • All I will say is good luck with it.  Personally, I would not start a fitness program with the holiday's coming up.  Diet is such a big part of any program, and I know that I would be at risk starting something now with all the meals and drinking going on the next few weeks.

    Now, with my program, I use half free weights and half cardio on our treadmill.  I can do the free weights anytime during weeknights, so that is the easy part.  For the treadmill, my wife and I switch up every other day.  While one of us gives the squirt a bath, the other one will do a 1/2 hour on the treadmill.

    Even with the schedule, it is really hard to keep on it during the holidays.  After this week, my paretns will be coming into town, so that throws everything out the window.  There will be a lot more dining out, and a lot of events with family and friends.

    Not to mention our son, who is now mr. climb-on-everything, and a walking tornado.  Head trauma appears imminent in my household.

  • I'm clumsy as all hell so I hope my child isn't a walking head-trauma magnet D:  

    Luckily, my family and wifey's family all live relatively close together.  My parents are 15 minutes away, in-laws are 15 seconds away so we don't have to host anyone or make appearances until the end of the month and even then, I'm able to sneak off to the gym early in the morning. (yay)  As far as stuffing my face during the holidays is concerned, my family (at my nagging) actually cooks pretty healthy now.  My mom and dad used to smoke, dad has heart problems and my mom has thyroid problems and despite my weight (thanks to hypothyroidism because I eat relatively healthy) I'm all about healthy stuffs and whatnot, organic and healthy.  As far as in-laws are concerned...the ones who cook the holiday dinner (wifey's grandparents) they kinda make everything a little dry so I opt for a salad instead lol

  • I need to start working out again.  I got my gym things in my car but having a hard time being motivated to go after work.  I start work at 7am so going before work is out.

  • How did the fitness plan work out?

    I have to do physical activity for work, so I find it difficult to do complementary workouts on my own time, especially since it takes away from family time to do so.

  • How is it going? My suggestion would be to check out this guy's facebook page. This guy has a great program. You aren't starving yourself. You eat smart and workout smart. Even if you don't use the program he posts a lot of tips and educational info. I can't wait to get back on after the baby comes. https://m.facebook.com/JamesWilsonFaithFamFit
  • If we're throwing out programs here, there is a guy on YouTube called scooby1961 who put up a bunch of really awesome videos focused mostly on muscle work and weightlifting that are really good for slowly easing into any program.  He covers all the major pitfalls too.
  • Find a concrete goal and attack it.
        Sign up for something you would never dream of like a half marathon or a short triathlon.  Then find a community of people that are training for it - you will make amazing friends as you all kill yourselves trying to prepare for this event.... and when the event comes, and you complete it, you will be filled with so much positive energy, you'll sign up for another straight away.

       Your body will transform during all of this and you might not even notice
