Pregnant after IF

Can we talk about (gasp) hemorrhoids for a sec?

I should probably hang my head in shame... With DD, I had a mild case of hemorrhoids towards the end of my pregnancy, which the doctor said was from being on my feet all day with the extra weight (I'm a teacher and I worked until a few days before my due date). Pushing out DD for 2 1/2 hours during delivery only made it worse. I've recovered since then, but I have a feeling they're back...probably from the constipation (sorry, another tmi issue). I'm so annoyed. Anyone else dealing with this? Anything I can do to prevent them from getting worse?...I still have a long ways to go. (Still teaching btw and on my feet all day) :(

Re: Can we talk about (gasp) hemorrhoids for a sec?

  • mmm i have hemorrhoids but nothing to do with pregnancy.  i started with them about ~ 8 years ago: i blame it on all the sitting around i had to do for school and studying etc.  mine are internal though, are yours external?  mine bleed occasionally esp if i'm constipated so i'm trying really hard to eat balanced diet and stay hydrated. if yours are external, are they painful? are they bleeding?

i would check with your OB if it's ok to use tucks pads or cortisone suppositories.  to prevent mine from getting worse i eat a lot of veggies, fiber one bars just in case (although they give me AWFUL gas pains), and tons of water!

  • I have no advice unfortunately, but just wanted to commiserate.  I was in the exact same situation with DS' pregnancy.  Got them towards the end of the pregnancy, then pushed for almost three hours during labor.  It was a disaster down there for a little while afterwards!  I don't remember being constipated so early in that pregnancy like I am with this one.  Seriously, constipation was one of my first symptoms with this one.  Ugh.

Hopefully someone else will have some good advice!

    Me: 42. DH: 46.

    1st Pregnancy: MC, 11/19/00.

    2nd Pregnancy: DS born 04/10/06.

    3rd Pregnancy: CP, 03/11.

4th Pregnancy: MMC, D&C 11/30/11, Genetic testing revealed Trisomy 4.

5th Pregnancy: Ectopic, 2 doses of Methotrexate unsuccessful, surgery 4/10/12, right tube removed.

Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN.  After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.

August 16, 2013:  BFP our first month of "not trying!"  Still in shock.  Beta #1 (14dpo): 183.  Beta #2 (17dpo):  611.  Ultrasound 8/30/13: baby measured 6 weeks, 1 day, heart rate of 118 bpm!
Ultrasound 9/13/13:  8 weeks, heart rate of 176!
    Baby is due 4/26/14

  • URGH, yes!!!!   My mother has cursed me with many of her ailments and hemmroids /fissures are definitely on the list.....even pre-pregnancy I've had issues. If you can believe it, they started when I was 13. YES, FREAKIN' 13!!!!  Here I thought I had my period the first time (now I know what a laugh that really is) but nope, just bulging veins in mah butt, lol.

Anywho, I had painful poop issues which made the hemm/fissures really bad. If I hadn't been used to it, I'd have been really freaked out by what was on my TP. ...so  I took two Colace (RE's recommendation) for a few mornings, drank lots of apple juice which made things easier to come out. Then I made sure to get a lot of fiber and whole grains and stopped taking the Colace. Things were a lot better for awhile there....but the poop issues are coming back so I'm back on my regiment.

Hope you feel better soon, I think that is the worse pregnancy symptom, yuck :(

  • I also use moist wipes instead of TP to help reduce irritation. It's much more comfortable for me. Good Luck, sorry it sucks so bad.

  • I have no experience with them, but I'm sure I will in the future :( I have been battling crazy constipation too! Ugh!

I have heard that icing and/or soaking in a few inches of warm epsom salt baths can help.

Hope your tush feels better soon!

Oh yes, this too! Love the moist wipes, lol :-bd

  • I have noticed a fleshy pink lump on my anus for the past several weeks. I am currently 26 weeks along. The lump isn't painful and seems to get bigger when I have a bowel movement. Is this something I should have my obgyn look at.
  • I have them before pg. I actually suffered ao bad about 4 years ago I was in severe pain every day, nothing worked. Warm baths would be the only sort of relief I would get. Now during the pg, they've haven't been as bad, but since friday they have been irritating me so horribly. Ive been using wipes, warm baths and preparation h., surprisingly it has given me some relief this time around.

  • I have tripled my fiber intake praying this doesn't happen to me and so far so good.  Things are definitely slower in the digestive track, but moving well.  I drink a serving of green goodness smoothie every morning, then eat a mix of berries (blue, black, rasp, straw), eat a banana everyday, try to have a green, leafy salad everyday...and I drink about 60-70 oz of water. So far so good!
