Pregnant after 35

Oh the sweet torture! :)

We had our baby's a/s the day before Thanksgiving.  We went in telling the tech we did not want to know the sex of the baby.  I had a moment of reservation though.  It was easy for me to be strong leading up to the scan because I knew I still had the option of finding out.  DH is very adamant about not knowing.  When I said something to the tech about kind of wanting to know, she said she could take a pic if we were lucky enough to see gender and place it in a sealed envelope.  I asked her to please do that because I liked having the open option.  She did and put it in a very sealed and taped envelope.  She then passed it to DH for safe keeping.  He gave it to me when we left.  I went home and he went back to work.  I was VERY tempted to peek but decided that I would rather wait.  This may be our only child so we may not get the chance to share something like this again.  When he came home I gave him the envelope saying I definately do not want to know.  He said he could destroy it but....... well there are pics of our baby in there!  Instead it is posted to the fridge with a magnet so every time I go to the kitchen I see it.  I don't want to know yet and seeing it is like looking at a christmas present and anticipating the surprise.  Did anyone else not want to know, but caved and found out?  Did anyone else have the option to know at any point but stayed strong and waited for delivery?

  • Oh my goodness that is torture. I thought it was bad when I got my Panorama results back and I asked the nurse to leave the sex on my voice mail so DH and I could find out together. That was a horrible 4 hours until we both got home.

  • I am amazed at your discipline! I would have opened the envelope. Luckily both DH and I were equally impatient to find out the sex.

  • I haven't wanted to know with any pregnancy, but last one, DH's parents really wanted to know.

We decided that if the U/S tech could tell, we would have her write it down and seal it in an envelope. We contemplated giving it to them, but decided they wouldn't be able to keep it a secret from us, so withheld the envelope until delivery.

They were pretty pi$$ed, but c'est la vie. We let them open the envelope when DS was a week old to see if it was right. They were upset that we never opened the envelope or gave it to them during the pregnancy.

This time...we haven't even told them I'm pregnant yet.
I've already had my 20 week U/S, and told the tech we didn't want to know.
I'm now 24+ weeks and hoping to wait til Christmas for them to find out I'm pregnant.

They definitely won't find out this time if its boy or girl until birth.
  • My husband didn't want to know with any of our babies, but I found out with all 3 of them.  Everyone knows but Daddy. I just hide stuff.
