Teacher gift questions

I know it's early but I have an insane 6 weeks ahead for my masters program so I'm trying to plan my holiday shopping.

DS just started nursery school in Sept and has major sep anxiety issues & the teachers (2 - a head teacher and an assistant teacher) have been GREAT with him. I mean he throws up if he cries enough and they deal with him so well - always trying to find new tricks to help him. I want to get them a nice gift but think gifts cards will be the most appreciated. How much is good?

Also - the assistant teacher is the one that caters to DS the most because the head teacher is running the class. Is it weird to get her a bigger gift than the head teacher? Or is giving them the same amount best?

TIA!!

I do $50. I'd do the same amount each teacher.

  • I have always done gift cards.  Do what you feel comfortable with.  I would give both teachers the same amount.

  • I agree GC's would probably be most appreciated. I did Starbucks last year. This year, I will probably do Michael's b/c I know the teachers are spending their own money on supplies so I want to help out with that.

I usually get a larger gift for the main teacher, but if your aides are helping a lot I would get the same amount for each. I wouldn't get a larger gift for the aides b/c you never know what kind of work the teacher is doing behind the scenes.

  • Gift cards & equal in this case. I struggle w/ the floaters who are only in the room like 2 maybe 3 days a week vs the other 2 that are full time.... so I usually give the floater a little less b/c I figure they probably get gifts from multiple classrooms and they're in there less.
  • I'm a preschool teacher and the mom of a preschooler. I would say $25 would be greatly appreciated. Starbucks Gift cards all the way! Or Target- we end up buying many supplies out of our own money for the classroom and target is great for everything.
  • I always did the same amount for assistant and head teacher in the classroom.

I'm a teacher, and I think $50/person is way too much.  You pay tuition to the school in return for their professionalism; you don't have to buy it from them with gifts. I wouldn't go above $20 each.

My favorite gifts to receive: hand-made card or letter from the kid, gift cards (Target, bookstores), food or snacks.

Least favorite: knick-knacks, candles, lotions, bath supplies.

I proudly display every note and card I've received from a student.  Scented lotion goes right in the garbage.
