High-Risk Pregnancy

Anyone else pregnant without gall bladder?

I had my gall bladder removed Dec 2012.

I'm now 10 weeks pregnant and seems I'm always in the bathroom. Dr says to watch what I eat but I can't figure out what it is that bothers me? Anyone have any issues being pregnant without a gall bladder?

Re: Anyone else pregnant without gall bladder?

  • I'm almost 23 weeks pregnant and I don't have a gallbladder. I also noticed some issues in the beginning of my pregnancy as well. I think for me it started around 5 or 6 weeks and things went back to normal around 12-13 weeks. I was just told to stay hydrated, eat healthy and take my prenatal vitamins. My doctor wasn't concerned about it at all, and things levelled out for me on their own. I hope you feel better soon. :]

  • I had my gall bladder removed when I was 18 (18 years ago). I had no problems what so ever. I don't even think the doctor mentioned my gall bladder or lack there of at any prenatal appts.
  • Thank you for your replys. :). I'm watching my food intake. Dr says not to even drink my one coffee a day. Going to see how that goes. Thanks again
  • Had mine removed March 2011. Pg with twins and they are babies 7&8. Nothing different than other pgcies related to GB that I know of.
  • @Lori_n_Lior do you also have MS. It's been quite the pregnancy for me. I have had so many miscarriages. So have been quite scared about this one but I relax at every ultrasound just the 2 week wait between them makes me nervous.
  • Why can't you drink coffee? My doc never mentioned that to me (I'm also missing my gall bladder). I haven't had any issues related to it.

  • I had gallbladder removed in 2010 and had my second DD in 2012. I cut out diary and anything really fatty. That should help. Good luck.

  • @LaLiLu Dr said to stop drinking coffee to see if I don't have to run to the bathroom as much.

@jcsntms06 I have noticed I'm worse with fatty foods. I'm gonna try cuting out dairy see if that helps.

    Thanks again everyone!!
  • I don't have one but this is the first time I've been pregnant without my GB and only a couple of weeks so far.  I don't anticipate any issues though.

  • I had mine removed when I was pregnant with DS. I have had some lingering issues which worsens during pregnancy with DD. Cutting out dairy, fatty foods and any other foods you know irritate you helps a lot. Other than that, it really shouldn't be an issue.

  • Second pregnancy without a gallbladder. Don't think it has affected me
  • No gall bladder here and it's never been a problem for me.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • Are you itchy at all in the hands and feet.  I had my gallbladder out in 2008 after my first pregnancy.  In this one around 18 weeks I noticed some annoying and uncureable itching in my hands and feet and was recently diagnosed with cholestasis through liver function tests and bile acid serum blood tests.  One of the possible symptoms is upper right quadrant pain similar to gallbladder pain as Cholestasis is a gall bladder issue.

Something to consider, hope its nothing at all just some stretching etc.
