LO first day of daycare

Tomorrow LO is going to daycare for the first time . I dont actually go back to work until Thursday but the week is paid for and I want to start a routine. I won't be leaving her all day until I go back to work but will be using Monday - Wednesday to get errands done and a few doctor appointments . Does anyone have any advice for me? Anything that makes your routine easier? I'm a wreck over here. I know she'll be in good hands bc we researched the center, but I'm upset now that it's hitting me she won't be with DH or me.

Re: LO first day of daycare

  • I could've written this... except Tuesday is my first day as I work 4 tens. I'm looking forward to the first day being over! Following for any tips...

  • Cry if you need to and don't be ashamed of it. My second day at work I had to leave my classroom and was in the hallway crying to my principal and was about to quit.
You will be ok and the baby will be ok :)
It will be hard at first but it will get easier. Carry a picture of your LO and look at it when you miss her. Remember that she will be in your arms in a few hours.
    Good luck!
  • Definitely cry if you need to. I cried the whole drive to work. The daycare lady told me to call if I wanted and she actually called me the 1st and 2nd day to tell me it was ok. In terms of routine I get everything ready the night before so I just have to stick her bottles in the bag and she's ready to go.

  • I second getting everything ready the night before. Sometimes it can be a pain, especially when all you want to do it sleep or relax, but it makes mornings 100 times smoother
  • It gets easier, I promise! Just remember that and give yourself some time to adjust to the new normal.

  • Thank you for the responses. I know I am going to break down at least once tomorrow and thank you for making it "ok"

It doesn't seem like it, but it will get easier.. My general advice is to speak up and be your child's advocate from the start. Even if you (or someone else) thinks you're overreacting if something rubs you the wrong way speak up right away. With Dd1 I did research and went with someone I had a personal reference from and a really good friend's child went there as well.. I actually moved her from there after the third day. Long story. But just trust your instinct and all will be fine. It's nice that you get a few trial run days before you actually start work.

Edit to also say that crying is absolutely OK!! People will understand and if you're anything like me you'll cry all the way to work and at least the first few times someone asks "how are you doing?" Bring lots of pictures, check in on your baby, and know you'll be back with her soon!

  • Tomorrow is my first day too and I'm freakinh out....I want to cry already.
  • It is just a hard thing to do no matter how you slice it. It does get a lot eaiser after the first week.

  • This was me last week. I thought for sure I would cry but I was able to keep it together until later that day the daycare sent me a picture of LO with a caption of "hope you are having a great day.. We are"! That's when I lost it.

  • My LO is starting on Thursday. I'm already freaking out. I've been back to work for weeks, but she is just now starting with daycare instead of my mom a few days a week and I'm terrified. I don't even know why, it's just how I am.
