We just did 5 deliveries in 3 hours. We had to call in 3 extra people. Holy moly, I may not be back on here until Tuesday.
Yikes! I hope your night slows down. My shift started with a 28 wk hypertensive, previous c/s contracting with decels in our triage area. We work with 2 nurses in triage and the nurse I'm with tonight is a waste of space. She's putting the pt. on a bedpan instead of putting an IV in and admitting her...priorities....
I'm on a pumping break and it's good to know I'm not alone with work woes @valstulas !
Can *I* just say?... that I love that we have so many nurses on our board. @fklang@fayga@valstulas - I know there are more... @arrow ? ( @aero ...?... something, I can't remember your exact screen name) and so many more...
You ladies rock! I was amazed at the nurses at my delivery and postpartum care. They were so kind and helpful with the indignities that come with post c-section recovery. I was blown away at how nice they were in taking care of me when I was in no way capable of taking care of myself. I never felt so feeble in my life. What a tough tough job. Mega kudos. To ALL of the nurses.
@fklang The good news about our hospital is that we don't keep anything less than 32 weeks, so that patient would be getting put on the bedpan on the ambulance ride to the nearest hospital with a level 1 NICU.
So to sum up the night: I started with 2 couplets, was the baby nurse on 2 deliveries, assisted with a patient on a mag drip, assumed care of a freshly-delivered third couplet, gave baths and meds to various babies, drew labs, got weights, and did a ton of teaching. Charted on everything and was done with an hour to spare. Woot woot! Back at it tonight!!!

Wow! What a job! Hope you get some good rest before you're back at it!

We are the hospital you transfer pts. less than 34 weeks to. It's Level 1 OB and trauma, we take everything. It's a university affiliated hospital, 4,000 deliveries /year. I'm pool at a level 2 too and I like the change when I'm there. Your place sounds like you have LDRP's. I only do labor, I try my best not to do postpartum because it's nuisance work. We do couplet care too, I think most hospitals do.
I hope you're getting rest now after a busy night.
