Recently my two month daughter had been wanting to chew on her hands. Been wanting to put them in her mouth and has been drooling like no other. Could she be teething already? Hunger? Or trying to figure out her hands?
LO has been doing this (and nibbling/sucking on anything that she can get in/near her mouth) for the last two weeks too.
I thought that maybe she was starting to explore, but my midwife insists that it is a hunger cue at this age. That being said, I can nurse LO for 25 minutes, and seconds after taking her off my boob, she will start eating her hand/shirt/blanket. Maybe it's sometimes a hunger thing, but I think there is more going on there too.
My LO is 13 weeks. He had been trying for weeks to get his hands to his mouth and now that he can he sucks on them all the time. I checked in his mouth but I see no sign of teeth buds so I think he's just exploring his new skill. When I put toys on his chest or in his hands he also tries to bring those to his mouth.
My LO is 12w tomorrow, she has been doing this for several weeks now. I think it's all the things you mentioned at different times. I know when it's near feeding time it's a hunger cue. If she's 'playing' I know it's just exploring. I'm not sure about possibly teething but I do know she drools & drools... so could be or could not be.
The drooling is bc they have not learned to swallow their saliva yet and their glands are in overdrive. I read somewhere that teething can start as early as 12 weeks.
DS damn near sucks the skin off of his hands. I thought it was a hunger cue as well but he seems to do this at the most random times.
That's DD, too. The salivary glands are working in overdrive (not necessarily due to teething) and they discover hands and feet. DD will be 12 weeks on Tuesday and she grabbed her toes the first time this past week
My DS will suck on his fingers and look around but he's usually just exploring. If he's hungry he starts to get a little frantic with it and make impatient noises, so I can usually tell the difference. He also started drooling and DH swears he felt a tooth coming in but I have my doubts. DS was 2 months yesterday.
Yeah i BF her for at least 30 mins n she does it after that n at random times to. Do I know she isn't hungry!!!!! So u just give them toys to chew on? Cause I don't want her to chew on her hands!!!

either a toy or a pacifier, she might just need something to suck. I'm in the camp of I'd rather a pacifier habit than a thumb sucking habit since I can take a paci away.
My LO who is 11 weeks does this. Started maybe 2 weeks ago or so. The drooling actually started after he got his first vaccine shot. He also started making bubby spit. The sucking on his hands is sometimes a hunger cue (if he's really sucking hard), but other times it just him exploring and realizing he has hands. Other times it's that he is trying to self soothe, in which case I give him his paci which he will sometimes take and other times not. I doubt it is teething.
My girls have been doing the hand thing pretty much since birth. It's their way of showing us they are hungry. They are also already starting to cut teeth. (We can see the ridges - one for each of them, on the left side.)
They say that they are learning their world. They are exploring and figuring things out. And soon enough they will learn they have some control over their fingers and those will go in too. Yes, sometimes it can be hunger cues. I think LO would rather have his fist to suck on over his pacifier right now.
My LO has been sucking his hand fir a couple of weeks now. For him it's not a hunger thing. He is just exploring or soothing himself. He will suck his hand when he brings it to his mouth but not when we do it for him. If I put my hand on his he will suck my hand! I think it's adorable and will help us get the soother away easier.
