Pregnant after IF

Getting over nerves for 1st ultrasound

How in the heck do you hold it together until the first ultrasound? I just want the results to be good and healthy. It is so nerve wrecking. We have our first ultrasound on Tues. @ 7 weeks 1 day. I am thankful to finally for the first time in 18 months to see positive pregnancy tests but my box of ivf meds reminds me how lucky we have been and that we have many hurdles to overcome. Scared:(

Re: Getting over nerves for 1st ultrasound

  • I'm sorry you're nervous, but it's normal.  I can't say I ever got over the nerves.  With my second pregnancy, I thought I was going to have a panic attack on the way to the first ultrasound.  This time was a little better, but we told our RE to turn the screen so we couldn't see it until she saw a heartbeat.  Everything looked good, but I have another ultrasound on Wednesday and I know I'll be nervous again.  Just breathe deeply and hopefully you will be rewarded with the sight of a little beating heart!

  • If you find the secret, let me know!  I was a nervous wreck before my first ultrasound too.  I just tried my best to keep myself distracted in the days leading up to it.  And to be honest, I still get nervous before every ultrasound.

  • I was also nervous before my first ultrasound. I only had about 5 days between second beta and first ultrasound. Crazy as it sounds I kept myself super busy planning the Thanksgiving menu for DH and I, and I'll admit - I spent a few evenings after dinner wrapping Christmas gifts. It was waaay too early but I did that... I guess my advice is to try to keep yourself busy!!

I am now halfway to my second ultrasound, and going crazy with worry and tired of waiting. Still trying to keep myself busy!

All of this! Still get nervous every time. Just breathe :-)

  • Thanks ladies! I put up some Christmas decorations and trying to breathe until Tuesday morning!

  • I was super-nervous, too.  As in actually tearing up and stifling sobs right beforehand.  It's normal.
  • I couldn't sleep at all the nights before my 3 ultrasounds at my RE. Once we got there MH helped a lot by talking to me and making me laugh , the distraction was great!

  • I don't have any soluations, but you are not alone. The first ultrasound took the 2WW to a whole new level for me. I was a hot mess! I was shaking walking into the room to the point where my nurse stopped and hugged me in the hallway. Only 1 sleep left for you! Good luck tomorrow!

  • I had my first ultrasound today and I have been a nervous freaking wreck during the wait between beta and ultrasound. Even in the ultrasound room today I was so anxious, ringing my hands, shaking. I have no clue how I made it to ultrasound day, and when the day came I was terrified for the results because I wanted to stay blissfully unaware and image in a healthy baby. And I was relieved by good results.  You can do this!!

  • Thanks ladies! I was able somehow to remain pretty calm since yesterday except for actually sitting in the office waiting ( I peed 4 times due to nerves & maybe a baby...lol). It went great today. We heard a heart beat and are measuring on schedule:) I can breathe until next week!
