Anyone taking anxiety meds while TTC?

I lost it again this morning with MH. I'm so moody about this cancelled cycle and all the waiting around. I'm going to call my family dr tomorrow to see if he can give me something. I have xanax but never took it during the day just at night sometimes.

Is anything safe to take? Is it wrong to be doing this? It might be months before I cycle. I will try another therapist hopefully before Christmas. Everything is getting to me and it's this whole baby business. I'm even bitchy at work but in my defense my boss is brutal to deal with.

Thanks for any input. Sitting at theater by myself ready to watch Catching Fire. Had to get out of house :) I do have friends but this was last min lol

Re: Anyone taking anxiety meds while TTC?

  • Oh Becky, so sorry for your tough time.  I have no experience with those types of meds so I don't have much to offer.  I just wanted to say I understand and hope you can get some peace soon.

This journey is just awful on us all and our relationships really take a beating.  I've been experiencing similiar anger and moodiness with my own situation and knowing I have to wait quite a while before I'm back to cycling.  Doesn't the world know I/we don't have the time to wait at this age?! Geez. I'm kicking myself all the time about my age and being childless.

Please take care of yourself.  We are all rooting for you and wish you nothing but the best.

  • I second PrivateOne's feelings -- this is a really crappy situation and I hope you get some relief!  I have pretty bad panic attacks and have been on anti-anxiety medication for it at different times, although I have not been on anything while TTC.  If I were you (and if insurance covers it), I would try to get in to see a psychiatrist since they will probably know more about options while TTC.  Also, I remember a psychiatrist once told me that primary care docs tend to prescribe below the therapeutic doses on psych medications.  Maybe your family doc can suggest someone?

Sending you big hugs, and know that we are all here for you!

  • Oh, and one other thing -- when I saw a psychiatrist previously, they were fine with me seeing a therapist (i.e., psychologist) and I only saw them (much less frequently) for medication-related issues.

  • Thanks ladies. Even talking about Christmas dinner resulted in a fight this morning which of course stemmed from cycling. Oh brother. I actually felt today that I wished MH worked harder on putting his foot down of not going through with this. I'm sure I would of been upset but maybe we would of been a happier couple. Guess we will never know.

I forgot that I probably have to see a psychiatrist for some sort of anxiety/depression pills. Blah..

Oh and Catching Fire was good. Of course book better :)

  • I do take sertraline for anxiety - but I don't take xanax or klonopin or drugs like that. When I stopped the meds in May (when I got pregnant), I went insane. Moody, emotional. It was horrible. My GP advised me that it was better to stay on the medication (**in my case**) because it keeps me sane, which in turn is in the best interest of the baby (we m/c in June). I would definitely talk to your gyn or GP or psych and follow their advice.

Good luck, lady. I totally know what you're going through! xoxo HUGS!!

  • i take celexa, too, and it works pretty well for me. my GP was able to prescribe it to me so maybe yours will, too, to avoid the multiple visits to a psychiatrist. good luck!
  • I take Effexor and it helps with my anxiety and depression. I'm a much better mother, wife and coworker because of it

  • I take celexa and seroquel. I need the seroquel because the celexa doesnt completely take away the anxiety. Dr says its ok to take an occasional klonopin in an emergency
