Bringing baby outside

So, in 2 weeks I will be attending an event that my town does, where they basically recreate Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus. It is all outside, walking mostly though the woods. I am planning on bringing LO, but I don't know what the best way to bring her will be. Since its in the woods and there are a lot of people, I can't bring the stroller. I plan on using my boba, but I don't know how many layers to dress her in, or what type of layers. I have a little fleece jacket that we out her in when we leave the house and make sure she's covered with a blanket in her carseat, but she probably needs more than that, since the temp will probably be in the 20s-30s. The whole thing is about an hour and a half. Anyone have any experience in having their baby outside for a long period of time? Should I just decide to leave her with a babysitter instead of taking her? I would love to bring her but I don't want her to get sick from being in the cold.

Re: Bringing baby outside

  • could you wear her, and then wrap your jacket around you both?

  • ugh reading fail. sorry. Id have her dress in normal single layer, then one of those snow suit things. That way if she gets hot you can take off a layer.

  • Wearing her will keep you both warm :). I don't know how the boba goes, but if you have her legs out, most likely her pants will ride up. If you have baby legs or anything like that, put them under the pants and into socks.

Baby legs are a great under-layer in cold weather.

I agree on the footsie pjs maybe a fleece pair and a beanie. If I'm wearing her for a long period outside I like the footsie pjs so I don't worry about her socks falling off.

Eta: I think if you dress her warm enough she won't get sick. I think that getting sick from the cold weather is an old wives tale
  • I think the above suggestions are good ones. We just had DD out to get tree (maybe 15 minutes in a cold field plus a hayride). I bundled her into car seat so I could pack the blankets on. Normally I baby wear. I spent so much time worrying she was cold (she was ttotslly fine, maybe even a bit over warm). That I didn't enjoy it as much. So for this event is ask how likely I will enjoy it/be worth it. If you're going to stress about it for an hour, I'd either stay home or leave her with sitter. If you are able to relax and just bundle her, that's fine too.

  • We went to the Christmas parade last night. It was maybe 30 out. I put socks and long sleeve onesie under a fleece sleeper and a hat. Worn her. Put on MH coat and zipped us both in it. She stayed cozy for the 40 min parade.

  • We took LO to get a tree as well and put him in a snowsuit I bought from a swap site for 5 bucks.. Best winter purchase so far. If you're gonna wear him on top of a suit like that, he'll be plenty warm.. And I'd wear a footie pj under too :-) hope you enjoy yourself!

  • We have a Carter's fleece snowsuit that we got from Walmart. Lo goes in it when we go for walks if it's chilly.

This is how I've been dressing DD when we go outside in the cold weather.
