tantrums- hitting head

DD is 19 months old and has daily tantrums- a couple a day- depending on the day
most of the time i ignore them and tell her- when you're done with your tantrum- lets go color, play dolls etc... and it usually stops
but sometimes she throws herself on the floor- on her stomach and bangs her head on the floor- '
what should i do?
what would you do?
i feel like i dont want her hurting herself- but then again i dont want to feed into it..... hmmmmmmmm thoughts?

Re: tantrums- hitting head

  • My DD has done this too! They're jut frustrated.I usually try to stop her or redirect. I tell her she'd get a big boo-boo, then she gets scared and stops.

  • DS does this all the time. If it's not the floor it's the cabinet or the fridge...ugh. The pediatrician said to ignore as much as possible--he said his daughter used to do that and it ended up being for attention eventually. They'd ignore her and when she knew no one was watching she'd bring her head like an inch from the floor but not hit it. I'm obviously making sure he's not hurting himself (anymore than possible with one hitting his head on tile) but from what I've heard it is normal. Unfortunately.
